Quinta do Noval olive oil

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

I'm hoping to arrange a delivery to the UK of Quinta do Noval's olive oil. If I am successful, would anyone be interested in a bottle or two (or more)? No commitment until a price is known and accepted.

If anyone would be interested, please post here with the number of bottles you think you might like. Delivery would be to Seckfords or pick-up from me in London / Berkshire.

How much are you hoping to get? As always, I'd be interested, but it would probably become complicated getting it those last few miles to NI!

If you wanted only a bottle, you could put it into hold luggage if flying back to NI or put it in the car if driving.

I'll look at ordering a case - but how many come in a case I do not know. I do know these are 50cl bottles.

Price?

A dozen? Two dozen?

Not sure whether I approve of large-format olive oil.

What type and harvest is it? 2013 extra virgin? Or will it be 2012 stock?

Not known yet - hence no commitment until known. I just want to know whether I should order a 20ft container full of bottles for personal consumption or investigate a 40ft container to share.

Is 50cl a large format?
RAYC wrote:What type and harvest is it? 2013 extra virgin? Or will it be 2012 stock?
It's Quinta do Noval olive oil, harvested from olives grown at Quinta do Noval. It won't be 2013 since the olives won't have been harvested yet. Am I picking up any magnums from anywhere?

If a standard bottle is 50ml, how big is a double mag?

Alex. I would be interested in a few bottles. Would have been a nice pre Christmas delivery to use as presents!

I have enquired about the possibility of taking delivery before Christmas and will let you know when I receive a reply - but be warned that responses are rather slow.

Well, they didn't arrive before Christmas but I now have a good stock of Quinta do Noval olive oil. I deliberately over-ordered to have enough to share so please let me know if you would like any.

The 500ml bottles are £6.50 each, including VAT and hand delivery to a mutually convenient location. Delivery to NI at cost - presumably ParcelForce48 @ circa £13.

Was the delay caused by the fact that this is now new harvest stock?

I'll take 6, please, or 12 if stocks are sufficient to meet demand.

Delivery is in no way urgent.

A dozen cases of olive oil are arriving on Thursday.

I have plenty spare left if anyone else would like to have a bottle or two - please just post here, send me an email or a PM if you would like some.

DJ - have you made up your mind whether you want any?

I do get through quite a lot in a year - cooking, sauces, salad dressing, even bread making - but I don't drink it.

Always wise to be prepared. I have my port stocks sorted out and now have my olive oil needs taken care of.

Fair enough. I admit to being spoiled as my parents still make their own and are happy to send it my way.

Ran out for a short period in early Oct and bought some from Herdade do Esporão... which despite the pretty bottle was quite the disappointment. Far too acidic for my taste. Felt like the olives were green going into it.

Have you tasted the Noval vs others?

There's a few Douro olive oils that I've tried and liked, and I also like spending my money in a part of the world where people rely on farming for a living. From what I can remember, I have tried the olive oils from Quevedo, Noval, Vesuvio and Vargellas, I likes all of these as they were quite light and fruity. There was another I used a couple of years back but I forget what this one was - but I didn't like it as much, I found it more oily and soapy and not as flavoursome.

And yes, you are spoiled if your parents make their own and share it with you! A couple of jobs back I worked with some italians and they used to share their family olive oil with me and it was really good.

Sorry Alex, have been very busy of late and not here at TPF very much so I completely forgot about this. Yes, I think I would like some, perhaps 4 bottles if that would be ok - but I'll pick them up in person at a convenient juncture and then I can drive them back with a number of other things.
Does that suit?
