Good on you Gerwin, I lost the 18x Ware's  One minute before ending they came over me. Tried to get it anyway but when the price came up to €400,- I stopped. Bugger!!!

I'm sorry to hear that. But if you're interested in the '98 Warre Cavadindha (which was included in the lot), have a look here:

1 x 2003 Niepoort LBV
1 x 2004 Niepoort LBV
(one from a merchant in Portugal, one from a merchant in Germany, these were the last bottles they had, otherwise I would have bought more)

I got the 04 from the German merchant for 22,50 Euro all in, but the 03 from the Portuguese merchant was more expensive due to higher shipping fees: 34,60 Euros (16 € for the bottle, 3,75 € for packaging and 14,85 € for the shipment). But since I wanted to close gaps in my Niepoort LBV wine ladder I chose to ingnore the shipping fees.

Still good prices. Anything older than 05 moves into 'rarity prices' territory in the UK.

Not too bad I guess, I did not totally realise that there was 21% VAT to be added to my bid (not the auctioneer's fault, they did indicate it, I just overlooked). In total, including shipping I paid about €41 a bottle. The bottles are in pristine condition, so I'm happy with it.

Actually I was referring to André's Niepoort LBVs but my message was mysteriously posted twice! Sorry to hear the VAT caught you out! And €41 still isn't too bad.

Was it wrong of me to buy a case of Dow 97 from Berrys for £360? If so I plead the Bollinger rose ammendment.

Bold indeed, but that isn't a disastrous price. I hope you will both be very happy together.

So a consensus that I'm bold then.

Is that bold in the Charles Hawtree/Kenneth Williams way or bold in the daring dawn raid way, or the threw himself out the window convinced he could fly way?

The price is not disastrous, for retail.

It's drinking OK even at this young age.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

I've bought it now, you could have lied. Or let me down gently.

Anyway it hasn't got a poor write up for a 97. It is part of a strategy to get a few cases a year and also replace what I drink from the stash with odds and ends of something similar from what turns up locally. That way hopefully I get a decent stash of cases for my sere and barren days. I have drawn the port line at the turn of the century, but I liked those 03s so much I may have to rethink.

Good price for BBR-equivalent to the retail price at ND John when I last bought the D97 there.

Excellent. That means you can sneak in a few 2000s

Australian importer has cleared a fair few Quinta de la Rosa 2000 and 2003 vintage ports at auction. Managed to pick up a couple of the 1999 Vale do Inferno as well.

6 Roriz 00 from BBX. Seemed a fair price so I threw in 6 Chasse Spleen 08 as well.

So you relieved the disappointment from the auction on Tuesday!
