Pocas Vintage 1990 - 14,99EUR (was marketed on Ebay as a 20y old instead of vintage)

Interestingly no references or tasting notes at all to be found. But if this tastes like their 2000 but with 10 years additional aging, I have a great port for this price ;)

Please post pictures of the label and of the capsule, and, when you open it, of the cork.

I did not pick it up yet but will send you the 2 pictures from the seller.
Do you expect a fake or did you also not know it's existence?

I managed to get 10 of these at £5.25 each after visiting a number of stores. Hopefully they will repeat the deal between now and Christmas as it is very drinkable juice :D

Purchased over the last few days:

1 x 1963 Kopke Colheita (375 ml) - $127 - overpriced but delicious! I allowed myself a small splurge.
2 x 1991 Kopke Vintage Port - $56 each - excellent juice at a decent price (for the US)
6 x Quinta do Portal 20 Year Old Tawny Port - $20 each - wow what a great price for a 20-yr old!

A must have case of 70 Warre - that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it, and being a nice wife I have bought hubby a case of Smith Woodhouse 94 for Christmas. Not really sure if it's for him or just to add to my nice little collection of 94's I have going on

Lucky hubby - a case of Smith Woodhouse 1994 all for himself and a case of Warre 1970 to share.

1960 Warre (375ml) - $70
1985 Dow (375ml) - $50
1997 Graham (750) - $70

I drank the first two. I'm saving the third for the Holiday.

How was the 60 Warre half? We know the halves tend to age a bit faster, how did it turn out?

Yes, I lucked out with the Warre's '60 half. I followed a lead to a store that advertised a Cockburn '60 half. I inquired, and the proprietor bustled about the store searching. He came out of the back with an unlabeled bottle that had a "Warre 1960" seal. He offered the bottle for the same price as the Cockburn, and I tried to hide my excitement. It was my first Warre's. Upon opening the bottle, I checked the cork: "Warre 1960."

I apologize in advance for my limited vocabulary; I'm new to vintage port. The bottle had a strong smell of cork--overpowering the faint sweet smell of the wine. It is the oldest Port I've tried, so I suspected the cork smell might be characteristic of older wines. The wine itself was smooth and simple. I quite enjoyed the taste, but I was expecting something slightly more complex with a stronger finish. I tried an '85 Dow about a half-hour later, and I found that to have a stronger flavor.

What you have described about the depth of the '85 Dow compared to the '60 Warre is a pretty good summary of the two wines - you would certainly expect the Dow to have a stronger flavour. That's a feature of the house style, the vintage and the difference in age and maturity.

Out of curiosity, did you decant either of these ports? Both will change substantially over a 24-48 hours period in the decanter and it's worth experimenting to find where your preference is.

I didn't decant the wines. I'm unsure of the process, and I didn't want to spoil anything. But I'll have to do some research about decanting procedures before I crack the next bottle.

Tom’s guide (posted by Derek) is worth reading if you are interested in decanting. As long as you’ve washed everything you use, then there’s no need to worry about spoiling anything and you’ll avoid a mouth-full of sediment!
