Thanks Axel. Very pleased to read the great score for Ferreira. I look forward to drinking my bottle of the '77.

Thank you for posting this. An interesting read. 77 always seem to be awkward beggars. The shame of the vintage is the Dow, oh what might have been but for the corks.

Great article, thanks for posting it.

I wish WOFW had more articles on port.

Very nice read. Yes, sad that '77 hasn't generally turned out so well in time. Mostly due to poor corks and not the fault of the producers.

A bit of a play on words regarding the Cockburn though. They didn't "...applied....too late...", they were ordered not to make it and did so anyways. They could not register it as a VP or the bosses would have found out, as it would have appeared on the official company stock lists. They did however register it as a "ruby". Crusted to us but on in-house papers that caused it to be listed as a ruby so the bosses wouldn't find out what they did. Smart folks!

A good article, thanks for posting. The only scores which surprised me were the Niepoort '77 in standard bottle, and the Warre '77 in Tappit hen; the former I would rate much higher comparatively, and the latter I think is (generally) much better than the standard bottles. Interesting read, and like the main picture.

I think his Niepoort note is spot on (so are his other notes....well, maybe Royal Oporto is a tad high  ). Anyways, Niepoort is a very good VP but it is not in the top heap of the vintage. Of the times I've had it it has always shown fully mature, but on a good plateau, and lacking that complexity for it to be great. It still is a darn good VP, so don't misunderstand me, just not to the level of some others.

Actually I rated the wines in the 20 point-system which were transported to the 100 system without me knowing prior to the print.

That wasn't very nice of them.
