Do any readers have access to the 1938 Gaumont-British film Voice of the Vintage? This film is mentioned on page 76 of Ernest Cockburn’s Port Wine and Oporto (1949).

the ideally would be a digitised and downloadable version.

I have searched for it before without success.

Perhaps an email to the British Film Foundation would prove useful?

The BFI National Archive reports that they do not hold a copy of the film. There is a reference to the film in Volume 52, Number 4182 of Today's Cinema published on 31 March 1939, which can be viewed by making an appointment to visit the BFI Reuben Library. Contact with their chief archivist may point someone towards an organisation or an individual who has a copy.

If anyone can track down a nitrate copy of the film, when I retire I will be using a specialist piece of kit that converts cine film on a frame by frame basis into digital video for my historic family cine films, some of which are of a similar age. I'll happily convert this film as well.

No luck searching here, though one possible source might be the Gaumont Pathe archive of Gaumont documentaries. Online video search/access is only available to registered news personnel, but direct contact to the organisation might be worth a try.

There is a massive amount or archive material in various forms that has never been catalogued or indexed into an internet searchable format.

My factory site at Cambridge was a military installation during WWII and was probably surveyed by the Luftwaffe. Interested to know what it looked like at that time, I made enquiries. I established that most of the Luftwaffe's reconnaissance photos survived the war and were taken to the US, where one is free to go and examine them by appointment; but at the time I enquired (about ten years ago) they were still in original film format and had not been indexed against grid references..
