Merchants’ packaging of bottles for transport

Post by jdaw1 »

Wine merchants and others send bottles in various arrangements of cardboard, polystyrene, and other things. This thread is to hold examples of such functional protective light-weight packaging, perhaps with comment and discussion.

To start, the packaging in which the Scotch Malt Whisky Society delivered six bottles. Background box is the inner folded cardboard. Protruding edges keep this about 1cm away from the outer sleeve into which it slides (foreground), six such sleeves being in a regular outer box (not shown).

If you are interested in non-British packaging, I'll take pictures of our next arrival from WinesTilSoldOut.com. They use 4-pack outer boxes with inner... uh... liners? Forms? The liners are made from recycled paper and would be useless if not used in these specific boxes, as the outer box provides some of the necessary structure to keep the bottles in the liners. Clever, wholly recyclable, and an excellent example of re-use.

I did not specify nationality — so yes. (And I was once a customer of WTSO: e.g., Rr04.)
