Have just acquired a few bottles of the recent Warre's 1970 Private Cellar release & wondered if anybody had partaken of this yet?

I'm an quite confident between this group we've collectively consumed a lot of 1970 Warre's VP. I know I've had quite a decent amount of it over the years. This is just a re-release from the company stocks and is no different than any other 1970 Warre's VP currently on the market.

This was released by the Symington toward the end of 2016 and is (supposedly) the final release from their stocks. Therefore hoping it's in perfect condition...

Will post a tasting note.

I have seen 2016 release for Warre 1985 in Wine-searcher, but it is advertized at ~6X the price at other shops in Wine-searcher.
What is so special about the special release?

In respect of the 1970 the answer is nothing. Nada. Nowt. Presumably the keyword here would be 'provenance', overlooking the view that port stored in Portugal ages faster than that stored in cooler northern climes. I nearly responded to this thread earlier with something along the lines of 'I will finish drinking the Warre 70 I bought for £35 a bottle from a shop before I buy any for £130 a bottle'. But then reflected it might be seen as unhelpful. I wonder if it is an attempt to reposition the prices of UK stock. I have not seen the 85 offered at inflated prices yet but I hope it isn't true.

I'm after getting a few 85s to add to my current meagre stocks and I've noticed that the good ones have taken a significant jump since I previously looked last year. Not 6x obviously, but a 10-20% uplift over just 6 months surprised me.

£ 42.50 in one shop (fair enough, they have only one btl)
£55.00 in two other shops
£79.97 in one shop
to £322.00 in the dearest (£1,931.00 - for a 6 bottle case)

All are from Wine-searcher.
1985 Warre's Vintage Port, Portugal.

Here in Norway the price is £86, but nearly sold out.

I rest my case (of port).

The £40-80 range is perhaps right for the '85. The £322/btl is ludicrous, and is a "marketplace" seller, which would appear to be someone putting their wine up for sale at whatever price they wish, and in this instance appears to be totally unrealistic.

Now when I first read your post, I thought you were saying you had found the W70 private cellar release for £42.50/btl, which would have been a steal!
