Abdulla Port

Post by jdaw1 »

The Parlour Wine Committee of Emmanuel College Cambridge, in the minutes of the meeting of 7 November 1949, wrote:A number of wood ports supplied by Williams, Standring were sampled and it was decided to continue the use of Abdulla Port supplied by Fielding and Burchell.
Searching the internets for “Abdulla Port” finds the King Abdullah Port on the Red Sea coast of Saudi Arabia, just north of Jeddah. We can assume that this is not what was meant.

So what was “Abdulla Port”?

Perhaps a vestige of the Moorish influence in Portugal?
