That's a shame. I had a bottle of this this weekend and it showed quite well. From a 1/2 bottle purchased at Wine Bid--decanted 8 hours. Blood red with a burnt orange meniscus. The nose offered pepper and stewed rhubarb. Crisp and light, picked up traces of white pepper, and a good finish with grape...

On my own I usually can't drink Port fast enough to do it justice, so almost all of my "nice" bottles are saved for when I have someone to share them with. That's more true of VP than tawny, though... I can generally finish off a bottle of 40-yr old before it starts to decline, so I'm mor...

Sept. 28th is out for me...have a family event that weekend. If another date, I will retain my spot as first reserve.

Now you have to hope for a good harvest for this year so Elijah will have proper things to drink in 20-100 years.

I disagree somewhat. Too many decanters are terrible for the last pour or two--mainly I find the ones with long straight necks are the worst--the wine just flys out. Teardrop shape/ships decanter usually the best IMHO..

Glassware: Instead of the Reidel (which are very nice and expensive but also break easily IMHO) why not just get a case of Marjorie Lumm's glasses for $2.75 a stem (#9909). With shipping the lot would be $130-$135. Then you'd have enough for your group to do proper tastings.

I'm trying to hook him up with a wine rep who did an across the board tasting for us--a lot of entry level stuff, a 10 year tawny, and LBV and a VP. However, the producer is not a top of the line one.

From what is being described, you could do this for about $200 to $300 including a little bit of food to nosh.

Gary's Wine in Wayne or Bernardsville Wine Store in Franklin Lakes (forget the name)...not the best prices but has a walk in "cellar" with many fine bottles--you'll pay serious retail but at least the provenance looks far better than most Bottle King (they have numerous stores) is good for...

AHB concept is great, too and certainly a way to taste both tawnies and rubies in one event. Its all good.

Dear Novillero; G-Man is correct...I have a group of port friends, most of whom are novices, and we tend to taste in groupings as you describe. Generally, it is not ideal to switch around from tanwies to rubies to whites without a little interlude between. Also, sticking to one house is a great idea...

I have a 1980 GC, a 1986 Grahams Malvedos and a 1985 Sandeman. Do any of these work?....if not, no worries, I could acquire something.
