Re: Virtual Tasting #7, Tuesday 16 June 2020

Just out of interest, and a topic we could discuss tomorrow perhaps, but would anyone be interested in a blind tasting when we have our next Zoom tasting in about 2 weeks? If people are interested and willing to cover the postage costs (of about £5 per person in the UK and who knows outside the UK)...

Re: Hedonism/Symingtons Virtual tasting

I think I’ve already mentioned this but I have really struggled to get my head around the Symington’s pricing of these off-line tastings. To be fair to the Symingtons, a similar premium tasting at/with Hedonism would be similarly if not higher priced. Completely agree that there has been some wide ...

Re: Taylor's Terra Feita Vertical

Just had a quick check online and only 91 I could find is a 12bt case at Lay & Wheeler. However it's nearly £1100 in bond... Let's all keep looking. Will ask C&B contact to check with Mentzendorff. Just heard from C&B, and Mentzendorff have obtained a bottle of the 1991 free-of-charge f...

Re: Virtual Tasting #6, Tuesday 2 June 2020

I had bought one from Waitrose in Bridport for £10.99 for a 50cl bottle that day. It was a very lovely cream sherry and was already great value at the price I paid and definitely worth indulging with the offer Neil has posted about.

Re: Virtual Tasting #6, Tuesday 2 June 2020

This was a fun evening; once again many thanks to flash_uk for arranging it. SCD and I called it a night shortly before 12, having by then put the entire world to rights. Fun indeed... if only the world had been awake to listen to the instructions! Thanks again to Mike for arranging and everyone fo...

Re: Virtual Tasting #6, Tuesday 2 June 2020

How about a theme for Simon of “1972 or a Birth Year Port, if you can.” Might also work for Neil. Unfortunately, my ‘72 stocks are not that extensive, so what I have is earmarked for 2022 or beyond. But maybe something like an Fg76 I have been saving or an Aged Colheita. Something to savour more th...

Has a theme been decided? It is my birthday that week so I was considering breaking lock down austerity drinking and opening something I have been saving.

Re: Virtual Tasting #5, Weds 20 May

A huge thank you to Mike for continuing to host these fun evenings. I had the Warre’s 2007 LBV to accompany the night. I will get to a tasting note one day, but as a fan normally of this port from other vintages I was a bit disappointed. All there just not singing for me. Lots of red fruit, some bla...

Re: VWP and b.f.t. Quevedo tasting

The serving temperature guide for tawny/colheita port is approx 10-12 degrees c. Personally I think you can go a bit colder. I will take the port out of the fridge about 15 mins before and pour. They should get up to the perfect temperature for the start. I am sure others will have very different vi...

Hi Simon, Having been stored in the loft maybe an issue, as although nice and dark they may have been subject to quick temperature changes and significant heat in the summer months. If you don’t find a buyer here it maybe worth opening and enjoying one to make sure they have not been affected. Good ...

Wow! That is a list of some fine port from great vintages. I am guessing it is 75mls sample bottles as per the first couple of tastings. So this one or Churchill's for a bit less?
