Re: Will there be an emergency on Wednesday 10th July?

I predict 43yr old men with (at least one) 43yr old bottles. Sadly I will be in Crawley :(

Re: Samples bottles, round two

Its usage for the transport of gases and the construction of chemical barriers suggests good levels of impermeability.. True, however almost all the information seems to relate to whether the chemical will damage the barrier over a long period, not whether the barrier may leach into the contents, d...

Re: Samples bottles, round two

I’m relying on the wording on the vendor’s website. Food grade and pharmaceutical grade approved. The manufacturer quote may be necessary, but is it sufficient? (it may well be, I just do not have the knowledge). IIRC, I noted that HDPE was not usable where vacuum seals where required and provided ...

Re: Samples bottles, round two

I'm in; I've been using glass until now and would much prefer to use plastic providing no taint to the contents. 60ml wide-mouth definitely ideal size; clear would me minor preference to opaque if there is an option. On previous round of searching I focussed on PET rather than HDPE since (a) it had ...

Re: A minor diversion

Just remembered this thread. I can do 1 to 84, except 76. Well played. My only solution for 76 would be 76 = (∑(1..(3*4)))-2 provided that such use of ∑(1..n) is valid to mean the sum of values 1 to n without the full algebraic form required. Without the ∑ I do not have a solution for 76 eith...

Re: The Port of Belfast, Tuesday 25th June, 6pm, The Galley

I presume one can get 6 cl bottles easily in a chemist's..? My purchase of these was discussed in the thread entitled Small bottles to hold tasting samples , the link to the supplier having changed to www.sks-bottle.com/340c/fin13g.html . Shipping was expensive (have you experience of that?), so I ...

Re: Lucky find

I have just found a Graham 1970 that I didn’t know I had. :D It's mine!!! I recently heard DRT say "I've never had Graham 1970 before" so it plainly can't be his. If JDAW is too perturbed by the bottle's presence, or any similar discovery, I am sure the local rent-a-tpfer can provide a so...

Check out the picture of the butcher! Haha - I did exactly as asked and thought "ok, Ben likes the look of her..." but that was as far as I got until I saw Glenn's reply, at which point I then went back and instead of checking out the photo of the butcher, realised I was supposed to be lo...

Request for VP bottle/label/capsule images

As previously mentioned here , I have started to photograph and create a database of images of vintage port bottles, labels and capsules, in part to assist with future identification of other bottles. I have also received images from others with permission for inclusion in the database. I would now ...

From here:
Richard Hall Clark(e) 1759-1821 was JP of Dridwell, Uffculme in Devon. Bottle was to commerate his return from the battle of Waterloo.
No word as to what the bottle contained.
By chance, Richard Clark is also an Executive partner of Slaughter and May

Re: perhaps

Although Google will do their very best not to tell us exactly how it works, the latest algorithm (aka Penguin 2.0) is believed to take a dim view of websites that seed lots of spam links to themselves from content locations that bear little relation. So, for example, a website promoting the virtue...

Re: Apostrophe crimes

Can we change Molly's name to Doll? Or perhaps Dolly (as in Parton), who on purchasing a doll house would now own Dolly's doll house. She then purchases a doll, and when playing believes that the doll owns the house, so it becomes Dolly's doll's doll house. When she buys another doll, and the house...

A good evening; thanks to Chris for suggesting (good to finally meet you), RAYC and jdaw (and any others) for organising. Lots of good port, some very good indeed; For me the best were the Dow, Graham and Fonseca (others found their Dow to fade as time went on, I just found I had an empty glass so w...

Re: Software that makes placemats

The name PageOrderingNonDecanterLabelGlasses is either confusing, or I need to RTFM... "non-decanter-label glasses" as opposed to, presumably "decanter-label glasses"?

Re: Software that makes placemats

I prefer the alternative. I just find it easier to have all of the placemats together and all of the TN sheets together. We have a difference of opinion; neither unusual nor problematic. suggesting provision of the option for #1 or #2 controlled by a simply named user controllable parameter Whichev...

Re: Software that makes placemats

If the paper sizes are different then, currently, the software sorts by paper size in the outermost loop (well, unless over-ruled by PageOrdering !). All of which seems to be what you have requested. Also PageOrderingNonDecanterLabelGlasses already exists, being used, for example, if a tasting is o...

Re: Software that makes placemats

Broader question: what should be the default? That leads to a question about our behaviour. ... I’m half-preferring acknowledging that we tend to do the second behaviour, so should have the second arrangement. Thoughts? I think there is a good argument for at least facilitating the latter behaviour...

Warre decanted. A huge (really huge) amount of sediment, both large and fine.
Mayer Sworder's English bottling, so EB/OB comparison with Julian's bottle may be viable, assuming we trust the label.

Re: Port for as a Christening Present

Given your statement that you're not too concerned with year, you have a number of options. I would suggest choosing a year where lots of houses declared, with a good reputation. I would also aim to ensure that the port will be at least >21 years old at the planned time of drinking, which is not dif...

Updated draft of the placemats . Any way we can arrange "D", "D,W" and "W" side by side? I can get the ‟D,W” between the D and W, even though, for five glasses, I prefer /RectangularDislocation to /Diamonds . But maybe, with five beside six, I prefer the latter, as th...

For 69 we seem to be limited to TV69 and D69colheita ... There's a rather nice G69 colheita...plus the Prince of Wales "investiture port" is pretty good if you ever come across that. I had intended to include the Graham 69 colheita in my original post; I wasn't aware of the "investit...
