1975 Delaforce
From magnum; decanted off very little, sludgy sediment. Pale auburn in colour, with a rose rim. Floral honey on the nose, pleasant but not strong. Dusty sweet redcurrant jelly on the tongue, with the tannins showing through as a gentle dusty persistence. Floral and rose-water flavours in the mouth, ...

Re: The Christmas offline 2010
I'm in.
Does the fact that Chris is game mean that we can shoot him on August 12?
Can we reserve a couple of spots for guests who would not normally attend our offlines? Last year the fact we did this meant that Rute and Joao were able to join us.

The last two seats at the offline have now been taken, by a London based friend of Gustavo and our occasional port companion Nicos Neocleous.

The venue for the tasting is The Bowler, 32 Bowling Green Lane, Clerkenwell, London EC1R 0BJ, +44 20 7837 8340. We have a reservation from 18:30. I suggest that we aim to arrive for a 7pm start. We'll start with dinner and follow that with the offline, no doubt we will drink some of the ports with t...

Re: 1983 Dow
Mature red in colour, showing the red / brown mix of maturity. Similar nose to the Warre 1970 shown alongside, but not as well developed; slightly hot, with All Spice and cherries. Slightly sweet entry, then full of dry cherries. Quite harsh on the sides of the tongue; joy, but with ripe cherry frui...

Russet brown, with a very light centre and a pale rim; looking as though it will be in its tertiary phase. Alcoholic on the nose, with a hint of rubber. Toffees all over the entry, then sweet redcurrant and some dryness on the edge of the tongue. Spicy acidity and lots of honey flavours on the palat...

Re: 1997 Croft Roeda
Dark red, very young, opaque centre and deeply coloured rim. Loud blackcurrants all over the nose. Big, sweet and fruity in the mouth; so full of fruit that the peppery tannins are almost hidden. Sweet, deep blackcurrants on the aftertaste; long and lingering but not big in flavour. Soft and approac...

Re: UK General Election results
Early news reports on the candidates are now being received, as follows: Warre 1970 Decanted for 7.5 hours. Mature red in colour, clearly comfortably middle aged. Lovely warm nose, full of spicy redcurrants and cinnamon. Delightful entry, very balanced. Some aggression from a combination of acid, ta...

Re: UK General Election results
Did any of the electorate attempt to vote after 22:00? And, if so, were they refused the right to vote? If either of the above questions result in a "Yes" or a "No" then I object and demand a second ballot. The Presiding Officer and Returning Officer have consulted the electoral...

Re: UK General Election results
That’s unusually good estimating: or were the clues particularly helpful? (And which is ‟Ck”? If Cockburn, the standard abbreviation is plain ‟C”.) Meanwhile, the BBC reports that the choice of the electorate is not to choose. Or maybe the Blues. Or maybe a re-taste later. There were no clues, so...

Re: UK General Election results
The candidates have now revealed their true nature. The electorate guessed them to be:
Wine 1 - unknown shipper from '92; T70; F70 - was actually W70
Wine 2 - Ck64, Ck64, Mz55 - was actually T35
Wine 3 - G83, W83, W83 - was actually D83
Wine 4 - Roeda 97, Pocas 05, Vau 05 - was actually Roeda 97

Did we once have a layout for 3 bottles that held glass circles and tasting notes on the same landscape sheet of A4? If this works, please could we do the same for tomorrow night? Thanks.

I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiments that you have written here. I hate the Sothebys e-catalogue and it is easily the least friendly for potential buyers - not infrequently do I decide that I do not have the time to browse and see if there is anything I am interested in. Web presence does seem...

Re: Portugal downgraded by S&P to A”“
But a country’s borrowing is somebody else’s saving. Country issuing bond = borrower. Entity purchasing bond = saver. Hmm, perhaps, but not the way that I would have expressed it. Many of the bond purchasers will be banks leveraging their capital bases to the extent permitted by their local regulat...
