My W.O.T.N. Nice deep red colour, a little spicy on the palate. Still not a keeper so will drink up my few.

Re: 1983s, Thu 25 May 2023, at B&F

Thanks Tom and Alex. On looking back at the 30 year tasting back in December 2013 it’s like déja vu! No outstanding Ports so maybe we just have to write off that year. One or two might be going through a dumb phase but on balance I think many are past it. A few ranked as good but no very good rankin...

Re: Taking a 1963 port to a restaurant?

No.3 as have done 1 and 2. Maybe I'm cynical but when left to restaurants there always to be quite a lot of sediment to be taken out (at least that's what one sommelier told me!). The waiter's friend(s) takes on a new meaning

Re: Port for sale by retailer

Well I got diddly squat, I knew they wouldn't send wine to the Republic (they closed their foodhall in Dublin because of Brexit) so I was diverting it to Northern Ireland (message said they couldn't send wine there either). I'd say the Unionist community is furious!

Re: Festive Drinking 2022

an Aldi Bekka Valley wine from Lebanon, I didn’t realise this existed. Does the bottle say who made it? They Aldi website is unhelpful... I don’t think I can compete with many of the selections here. Sparkling wines included a Sussex champagne-blend by Albury which was new to me. Attractive but tas...

Re: Festive Drinking 2022

Light Christmas Day lunch with a bottle of Rathfinny ‘17 Classic Cuvée which, despite its Irish sounding name, is actually from Sussex. Our first time departing from traditional Champagne; it won’t be our last, light and refreshing. Not mad about turkey so cooked a côte de boeuf and opened an Aldi B...

Re: Morphets auction

Maybe we need a section dedicated to Auction houses and problems and praises connected to them. When I started buying Port at auction, in the late 1980's, buyers commission was typically 8% in Ireland and vendors paid 10%. Nowadays it's common to pay up to 29% as a buyer and vendors up to 25%. Aucti...

Re: Port for sale by retailer

Aldi is launching their Christmas range here in Ireland from tomorrow. Fletcher’s 40 year old tawny is back. Slow seller here but I know it disappeared quickly on mainland UK last year so this is a heads up to all you tawny nuts (Glenn if you want a bottle I’ll pick one up for you but I don’t know w...
