Re: White Port
So, Phil, make it over to the Croft Vertical to Germany and we have the 52-63-71 as an aperitif somewhere before or after. I still own one single bottle of 52. That would be most excellent; am certainty hoping/intending to come over for the Croft vertical, if I can make the date once decided. Is it...

Re: White Port
If truth be told, the Port trade is not very good at promoting white ports. At major tasting events (if it features at all) it tends to be the also ran 'curiosity' item on the list, Perhaps it has generally been a supply/demand issue; that there hasn't been much point spending significant money pro...

I am less organised than usual and do not have (a) my contributory magnum of Graham 1880 (typing error, the 8 should be a 9) I expect people will be just as distraught by your forgetting to bring the Graham 1890 Magnum. Will be interested in how this evening's tasting goes, I look forward to the re...

Re: Port for sale by retailer
On a mission to discover Croft 04 LBVs, in a Tesco where they have been known to cluster, Taylor 85 was instead found, at £85. This particular store is a most peculiar location for a bottle at this price point. Are TFP just getting it into every Tesco they can? The Wine Society are featuring it as ...

Re: Quinta do Vesuvio 2011 in Tappit Hen
The big question is, when should the first one be opened to check on the progress of the experiment? I'm not sure what the best date is, but I do know what the control group should look like :D I volunteer to assist with 'emptying' any further Tappit Hens bottles from '77 (especially the Warre!) to...

Re: A late night emergency, Belfast, 8th April 2014
Perhaps you could rename it the "Topsy-Turvy Tasting at Ten" (preceded by the "Topsy-Turvy Tawny Tasting")?
I had a better suggestion on suitable parameter name for a combined Irish/American layout choice, but it far, far, far too politically incorrect.

Re: Software that makes placemats
In common layouts I would start top left, then either working across the rows (mostly) or down the columns as appropriate. On some non-standard layouts there could be variation, for example an arch of glasses on A3 using placemat as centre, but these would be the special cases.

Re: 1940 Cabral Colheita
Any idea when this was bottled? No idea, I'm afraid. The bottle was one of a handful of identical bottles of unknown colheita from auction; the only marking on the bottles was the date of 1940 stamped in the wax seal. The cork was short, and stamped "Porto Cabral" but no further date info...

It's a Graham Crusted. Er, 98? Indeed it is/was. I was intending to provide a pic of the cork, but it was "tidied" and I can't find it (probably gone with the rubbish collection). There was no brand on the cork, only "Crusted Port" and "Bottled 1998" (or it may just ha...

Cockburn Special Reserve from 1973? No. I'm thinking a crusted port, from the 70s... Counting that as two questions (since probably helpful to do so, rather than just saying no): (i) Yes it is crusted, (ii) No, not from the 70s Interestingly, I have two different 1973 crusted ports, and was intendi...

And I think you said it was younger than you, should that be included as a fact? I repeated the question in which that information appeared. It must be a white port then - is it Dalva 71? A recap, since we're on a new page. The question: I have just opened and decanted a bottle of port. I was surprised to find that the cork did not have the producer's name on it; I believe this is the only bottle younger than I where I have seen this; I am certain it is not a fake. What is it? What i...

Welcome to :tpf: 1978 was unfortunately not a great year for Vintage Port; if I were buying for a friend and it *had* to be 1978, and it had to be Vintage Port, then I'd probably go for the Grahams Malvedos '78 which would be ok (not a resounding recommendation I know). Frankly though, it is not goo...
