1927 Croft

Terrible level: bottle 20% empty. Pale brick red. Acidic nose. Acidic in the mouth. Dead. Later, marginally less terrible, but still very tired and acidic. Dead.

Warre 1963

Mid translucency, brick red. Nosing of soft red fruit. My notes of the taste say only “Lovely red fruit; good length; great length†.

No pictures of this bottle were taken. My second white colheita, and another great bottle. Very pale, very white. Nosing of a light honey. Almost the Gale's Traditional Set Honey of my childhood (does it still have the same taste?). The soft honey also in the mouth. Later the nose deteriorated, acqu...

1936 Massandra Livadia

Orangey brown. Did the nose have apricots? Certainly sugar. even more certainly it was odd. AHB rightly described the nose as metallic. To taste marmalade, with so much sugar, and even more huge amounts of tannin. So much tannin in a 72-year-old thing of little repute! An odd creature.

1830 Ferreira

A cloudy orange to behold, and nosing primarily of sugar. To taste initially acid, then chocolate orange. Great length. AHB found grapefruit, which is a good description of the acidity. Held up well through the evening. We were all in awe of having been allowed to sample such a treasure. Once again,...

Alex B and Derek T

Alex is feigning sleep, and, amazingly:
  • Derek is awake;
  • Alex is not in a red check shirt.

Denating times?

Sandeman Vau 1997 in magnum? Offley Boa Vista 1997 in single? Perhaps to be had with Quinta da Eira Velha 1997? Thoughts?

Skeffington 1989

Drunk with food, and receiving less than our full attention.

Slightly light. Good red fruit. Quaffable, but not remarkable. Later, after more of the 1964 Krohn colhieta branco, the lightness and thinness were more overt.

Prager 1987, side of label

http://www.jdawiseman.com/ftlop/20080711_pr87_side.JPG We might not have liked the product, but have a commendation for a good label (despite the inconsistent capitalisation). Royal Escort Port is made from 100% Napa Valley Petite Syrah. Semi - dry - unfined - unfiltered. Aged in small French oak b...
