Re: F77 Emergency, 22 Feb 2011

The wines consumed at this offline showed well - probably the best bottle I have had of F77 for a while. WOTO (wine of the offline) was unanimously voted as: 3rd place - F77 (D+0 lunchtime tasting sample) 2nd place - F77 (first evening glass) 1st place - F77 (second and subsequent glasses) Conclusio...

Re: may tasting in the UK?

Absolutely! Don't forget we have the Sandeman vertical on May 13 - you need to talk to Axel if you want to get on the waitlist.

But if you can't make this offline (or even if you can) we'll raid our cellars to welcome you to the UK in the style you would expect and hope for.

I love this theme suggestion. "Bring the worst bottle of vintage port in your cellar". We will do that one day. Brilliant idea!

Re: Port for sale by retailer

Cheap daily drinkers. How bad can they be? Didn't you once say that you have never had a "bad" bottle of port? (Exlcuding spoiled bottles.) It is very noble of you to put this experience to the test. Do I take it that after you've drunk these you will be looking for a cheap source of Hutc...

Re: London Offline on Feb 22 and/or March 10?

Question: Does the half bottle have to be an original half bottle (as in, a half bottle filled by the shipper or original bottler) or can it be a half bottle filled from a full bottle at home? I will be opening two 750ml bottles and bringing half of each to TCP. Noted. I shall probably bring two or...

It was early, but needs must.

I did print the labels - on both sides of the label sheet to make sure that they would be useable.

I'll call TCP today and see if we can get the Boardroom.

Tasting mats look good - thank you Julian - and have been printed but more attendees are welcome, should an opportunity present itself.

Re: Port for sale by retailer

Nick,

Don't give up on the Delaforce '85 just yet, I've had some very pleasant ones. From what you describe, the one you opened at the weekend might have been very mildly corked - at least enough to flatten out the flavours you would otherwise expect to experience in the port.

Re: Corc vs. Cork stoppers

When you say "cork stoppers", do you mean what I would call a "T stopper" - a short cork attached to a plastic cap that overlaps the glass of the bottle neck?

NV Graham Tawny (The Emperor)

Bottled approximately 1975-1980. Decanted from a couple of teaspoons of powdery sediment. Deep honey colour, almost with a green tinge to it. Honey and clover on the nose, slightly rubbery - not a great nose but not offensive. Oily texture; figs and almonds on the palate, sweet but with a nice balan...

Hmmm. That would have required around 4 litres of water to accompany the port to ensure no hangover the next day. That would also generate enough exercise just heading to the toilet and back to make the gym unnecessary!

Re: Wanted Thread

maybe for you guys in the UK!!! i'm looking to stock some fonseca 70s! There is a fair amount of 1970 vintage on offer at the moment; it's not difficult to find with a little bit of patience. For example, Christies in December sold 6½ cases of Taylor 1970 for an average (including buyer's premium) ...

I can honestly say that the 82 is one vintage that has no merit I think a little horizontal is called for here - you might be pleasantly surprised.. Tom So perhaps we should offer an alternative summary: 1982 Some pleasant surprises My suggestion for another vintage - perhaps a bit contentious: 198...

Re: London Offline on Feb 22 and/or March 10?

I'm feeling deprived of port and of the company of like-minded fellows with whom to share some port. I was also alarmed to see that the next offline date in my diary is not until April 4. Is anyone interested in an offline (or two) in what remains of February and / or the first half of March? Would ...

Bottled unfiltered in 2010. Deep red in colour and completely opaque. Lovely open and attractive nose, full of youthful fruit that is just starting to soften with early maturity. Soft and silky impact; full of tannins that grab the tongue. Lots of fruit on the palate. Dry aftertaste, a bit hollow, b...
