Alan, My advice would be not to drive into the Douro. You will get lost - no doubt about it. AHB and I had a nightmare journey in a taxi going into the Douro last October. It is just not a nice place to have to drive. If you want a great experience and an oportunity to share some port with Fred you ...

I think cut after jdaw and move Corky's question to a new thread in MD, linked back to here.

jdaw's post cold be editted to note the amendment to the thread and point to the new one

All the dross can be deleted, including this, which is my 500th post 88)

Those are just the wines that jdaw is supplying. The rest of us need to come up with one or more off-years for our contributions

Derek, maybe if I told you that LadyR and I have an avere age of 31 (and that the lady is born in the wonderful vintage of KillerB's port), you could take that into account when making your final decision. Gotcha, a 5th bottle will now go on Death Row  - it will be that one plus one of...

Quinta do Coa (Organic) 2003

I picked this up in an organic food shop in the UK for £9 A very dark and attractive colour, almost opaque. The nose is quite closed and there are thick tears sticking to the glass. The predominant taste is of blackcurrant and the wine is heavy and very smooth with a nice long finish - just my kind ...

I have 4 possibilities standing on Death Row alongside Ronnie's WLBV95 -

I would tell you the average age of the bottles but KillerB would just moan about statistical relevance so I won't bother telling you it's 30.25 years

I'll explore this new phenomenum . Alan Phenomenum is explored further here Yes, Alan, this is a "new" style. Producers such as Sandeman, Noval, Niepoort and Portal are marketing VP's that are said to be early maturing when compared with their big brothers. They may just be worse, or they...

I hear what you say, Alan, but there are an increasing number of these VP's coming onto the market and it would be good to know what the production method is. They must be doing something different and I would love to know what it is. On the subject of them being a sub-species - yes, they are, and t...

VP for early consumption

And how does one make a VP for early consumption? - dare I suggest some light filtration...?? Tom That would make for an interesting trial (If it hasn't already been done). Even if it was proved to work, and I have my doubts, I bet the majority of us would then become 'Unfiltered Whatsoever' Snobs!...

Corky, I'm only guessing here but I think Ronnie has a slightly different approach to Offlines than you or I  Anyway, to clarify, what I'm looking for are sensory descriptions of the style, not specific tastes. For instance, I have only had 3 40 year old Tawny's that I can remember. I can't be...
