Re: 1985 Cockburn

1985 Cockburn: Lovely full red, though a touch paler than ideal. Nosing of VA, though less so than the ’91. To taste acidic and light, though of reasonable length. I hope that this was a bad bottle — but have never had a well-drinking bottle C85. Avoid.

Re: 1924 Unknown

1924 Unknown, “Believed Cockburn† : darker than the others — visually a creature from a different stable. And the same true by smell, accurately described by the Lisles as “dessicated coconut†. Lots of fruit, but off. To taste I wrote only “off†. Not liked; not Cockburn. Unbranded cork — of wh...

Re: 1935 Cockburn

As we were unable to procure a 750ml bottle of Cockburn 1935, two halves were served. One, this, was given to those on the right side of the table (as seen from the only entrance to the tunnel); the other to those on the left. Alas I, and perhaps others, failed to record which half went to which sid...

Re: 2000 Cockburn

2000 Cockburn: Dark red, with a hint of purple, with a bigger nose than the ’03 — though I failed to record of what. To taste much red cherry, and a vegetal something, though less so than the ’03.

Re: 1970 Cockburn

1970 Cockburn: Strawberry pink-red, nosing of “large red cherry† — the size adjective referring to the quantity of aroma, not the size of the cherries. To taste lovely full rounded cherry and red fruit; though fading to a medium weight at the end.

Re: 1977 Cockburn not officially VP

1977 Cockburn : an unofficial partners’ bottling, kindly brought by Miguel Côrte-Real. Its unofficial nature was emphasised by the word ‘Crusted’ on the cork. MC-R told us that two thousand bottles were made, of which seven hundred remain.  Translucent red, a really nice colour, even if an edge pal...
