Re: Monday 27 July, 2015 - Bring a bottle to share

I've just realised that I need to email Nick and ask him to pre-order. I will do so shortly. Alex, any response from Nick? I'll send the order over to the B&F last thing tonight - I have a back to back day tomorrow so won't have time then. Not yet. However, I suggest that we just let the team a...

Current draft of the food order. Can others please check.

Julian - if you are able to adapt the placemats for the demise of Derek and the appearance of Tom, I can print tomorrow afternoon and bring them along. I am likely to arrive at 1830.

Re: Significant figures

So the DRT classification is as follows. • Things big enough to be rounded: ◊ If in orbit around the sun are ‘planets’ (about a dozen are known, there might be hundreds); ◊ If in orbit around something orbiting the sun are ‘moons’ (there being about 19, the smallest perhaps being Mimas ). • Things ...

Re: Friday 14 August, 2015 - pending emergency, London

I have spoken to Alex at Woolgate, and reserved The Boardroom from 16:30 on Friday 14 th August 2015. Note to self: The Brasserie, Davy’s at Woolgate (25 Basinghall Street, London, EC2V 5HA, tel +44 20 7600 5216, streetmap.co.uk , maps.google.co.uk , bing.com ). You would find the boardroom a mite ...

Re: It's just not cricket

I think Ballance needs to take time away to sort out a solution to his now known weakness of playing far back in his crease. I think if it is a matter of confidence and just to remind himself he can score runs then sure, go back to the county circuit for a while. But if it is a matter of technique ...

Re: 1977 Gould Campbell

Decanted 12 hours, 50% opacity, dark red. Red candied fruit from the nose. Tannic mouthfeel - a bit gritty. I also thought it very mildly corked - but not enough to stop me drinking it! Guessed to be F77.

Decanted 6 hours, 30% opacity, brown orange, tobacco rim, a hint of cloudiness. Sugar bomb - honeycomb, candied red fruit. Mid weight, slightly acidic bitter finish. Guessed Ck60

Re: 1980 Taylor

Decanted 9 hours, 40% opacity, warm red. Gentle entry, little/no acidity, quick to the finish but with an aftertaste of red fruits. Medium weight, no tannins. Julian says too young, I thought it lacked some backbone and wasn't convinced it will improve massively on the evidence of this bottle. Guess...

Decanted 4 hours, 30% opacity, red brown. Nose warm and sweet. Gentle entry, very smooth mouthfeel, some heat builds to the finish. Bursting with cherry. Very very good indeed. My WOTN also. Guessed to be G70.

Just realised this is now 6 days away - we'd better order some food. Please confirm your requirements from the menu.

Julian, Alex, Ian, Charles, feel free to simply say "same as for Tuesday the 21st" if that is convenient!

Also decanted, at 0700. A slight worry about the nose, possibly corked. Backup bottle packed, which can be popped and poured if necessary.

I have a two-thirds full bottle of something that was decanted at the weekend that will also be making an appearance, so one of those dagger places will be occupied.

I would say it is Martinez with a clumsy effort for an 'n', and the dot over the 'i' very poorly positioned.

Re: It's just not cricket

Veering back momentarily to the cricket, I see they've dropped Haddin and will have a novice keeping wicket. The heavy, humid conditions in London at present surely favour us as well. I feel calm and confident. Derek, any predictions, since your barometer is so finely calibrated at present? Winning...
