Re: Quinta dos Malvedos: 22nd March 2010

Julian, Derek thanks for all the effort. Placemates look great! Please let me know if additional glasses are required. I am very happy, it looks like that we can start with the old Ports first. :D On the other hand if there is a majority verdict to start with the young Ports i also do not mind waiti...

Re: Emergency off-line: London, 17th March 2010

Hi there,

Sorry I could not make it due to other appointment. This sounds like a sad evening - so many flawed bts. Hope at least it was funny and you came up with interesting stories like damps suits, girls tasting or something. :)

Re: 9th March 2010 - the Crusting Pipe - Bring a Bottle

Hi Derek, indeed you are right. We need to improve!!! Hence we should organise a workshop    I think this will enable us to get better! Points to be discussed and evaluated: - two session flight offlines - are they really needed? - should we have a permanent table/desk at the Cru...

I fully agree with Derek!!! We should taste the old ones first!!!! If not I will if required bring my own glasses and wait until they are ready and start the tasting later.

Sorry for being pedantic!

Hi there,

apologies, but I fear I cannot come and have to drop out. Looks like I will be in Paris on the 19th of May on a conference. :(

Enjoy uncle Toms birthday tasting.

Hmm, am now a bit puzzled; does this mean you liked the Croft 1985 bts we had? And you feel that they did not have VA? or is this just again a kind of humor Germans do not understand

Re: 2000 Croft

The only bit I remeber that it had a very dark red to black colour and was fairly closed. Also had some chocolate flavours and a longe finish noted. All the ingredients are there. In ~20 years this should develop into a very good Port indeed.

Re: 1982 Croft

I also liked the Croft 1982. Had a subtle sweetness with red fruits. Silky texture and had a nice touch of secundary flavours/aromas I could not put words on. Light in colour, good mature Vintage Port for drinking now :D

Re: 1985 & VA

Hi Andy, as mentioned before by others I fear the initial question VA & 1985 is not really a "consistent" issue and therefore a biased thread. Do not get me wrong I agree with the thread, since I had quite a few 1985s which had VA (Croft and Niepoort being the worst culprits). Overall ...

Re: 9th March 2010 - the Crusting Pipe - Bring a Bottle

Hi Ray, it was indeed a splendid evening. I think we can use this as a definition of a true offline.  . Just to put things right, I wanted to refer to the word wine tasting and at the slip of my tongue (non native english) I came up by accident with the creation "wife tasting" ...

not a problem, but still very sad. :( In case it would help I can talk to the boss to reiterate the importance of our offline.

Otherwise hoping for a change in your schedule.

Hi Alex, must say have not decided what I will bring, but it will be highly likely one of the bts I want to try or a bt where the levels indicate/tell me "I want to be drunk". Since tinfoil is involved we should also leave the excitement in. It will be vintage Port   Good...

Hi there, I am very happy to hear that J. Miller has not being very appreciative of 2007 Vintage ports. :) This does mean there are no further negative price implications to fear. Of course its is sad that he does not see the quality in those. As far as I remember I had the Pintas on Axels "Tou...
