I must say, i tried really hard to get some days off work to make this. I figured it would be a fun surprise to show up with some bottles. Let me look...(all prices are in pounds)

1970 Dow's 2.30

1955 Graham's .95

Sucklings book "Vintage Port" was my source and lists many of the wines original release price.

If you want to know anymore, just let me know and I'll look them up.

Alan, that ol' '97 Vau is a decent bottle at that price. I've got a couple 1/2 bottles left. I've never been let down by this QPR.

1994 Niepoort Colheita

1994 Niepoort Colheita (b. 2005) I've had numerous bottles of this and it remains my favorite young Colheita. I opened this yesterday at the end of a wine dinner for a few who wanted to try it. As I finish the remains tonight, I now realize my original assesment last night was correct. This is an o...

Alex,

Hope you're having some good fun in SA. I've had a basic tawny from DeKrans (if I spelled it right). A very good tawny and one that had I had it blind would never have thought it was from a country other than Portugal. The Klein Constance was also very tasty and one I'd buy again.

Alan, It can be quite confusing, I know I get confused. But to use Sandeman as an example. Back in the very late 1700's when they started they were a shipper. They bought port and shipped it back to England and were a shipper only. Shortly thereafter, they started their own operations in Spain and P...

I've seen pics of other Quinta's wearing a similar kit in the lagars, so I don't think it is unique to Vesuvio, but I could be wrong. Todd, The biggest problem isn't the cost per se, but in finding the people to do it. THe Douro is a dying place for young people to stay in. Many people are moving ou...

I'm stretching my brain this early AM, but IIRC when the lagar gets to the desired baume, the juice is run off into a tank then the brandy is added in the correct amount.

Todd,
Yeah, but mainly the SQVP's or stuff I get from time to time at auction. Oh, and the VERY occasional sale item.
