Re: It's just not cricket
Looks like England are going to hand the final test to South Africa. Chasing 382, Hales, Cook and Compton are all out, 18-3. Weather might be the only hope. A 2-1 win to England might reflect more accurately the balance of the teams in this series than a 2-0 win. I would agree. South Africa are not...

Re: Wine Rack sizes
I'm also in the process of searching for racking for my new cellar. The example Simon linked to is probably the best I've seen in terms of density/price ratio. Trying to increase density above this means very sharp price increases. For example I did like these , however for the 25% improvement in bo...

Not quite. The link says the company is dissolved. Also, it was incorporated in 1954, well after the port samples your handwriting refers to, were dispatched.jdaw1 wrote:The firm still exists

I would say yes McKechnie - especially as that is a surname that is not uncommon, whereas other potential interpretations produce surnames I've never heard of. Bowen? Looks right, more common as a surname than a first name...

Top post updated to include everyone so far.
I think it would be good to transport bottles for this one to the B&F in good time (like 4-6 weeks in advance). As we get closer to the date we can confirm who should bring what and get all that going.

Re: Alcohol and health
According to the Office for National Statistics in 2014 there were 245142 male deaths of which 3682 were due to prostate cancer; 3682/245142 is almost exactly 1.5%. We already established that the figure quoted was not a percentage of all male deaths, but of males in the UK. Nevertheless, 3,682 != ...

With the calendar starting to fill up, I thought I'd float the prospect of a 66 horizontal marking the 50th birthday of the 66 vintage. I have plucked a date out of the air that is sufficiently far away to hopefully mean our diaries are not already booked. Please confirm if interested and if the dat...

"The crude mortality rate shows that there are 35 prostate cancer deaths for every 100,000 males in the UK." That is not 2%. It is 0.035%. Am I missing something? There are 35 prostate deaths per year per every 100,000 males in the UK. Not per 100,000 males who died in the UK per year. Th...

Magnificent. My food order:
Crab toast with chilli, fennel and avocado
Chargrilled sirloin steak 220g (rare) with hand-cut chips and grilled tomato
Peas and beans with mint lemon and butter
Which offering would folks prefer from Cr63, GC70 and T77?

Final session in Cape Town, bad light and rain look like bringing it to a close as a draw. What a bizarre final few sessions of a test. Credit to Amla and Bavuma - they really did dig SA out of a hole and a loss in this one.

35% opacity, red brown. Tobacco on the nose. Palate, a bit dirty, thin, some acidity, no backbone. Not great all round.
