Re: Lisbon Airport

Good to know, thanks for the responses. I'll keep a look out for small odds and ends then.

Lisbon Airport

I happen to be travelling through Lisbon airport next week (careless having omitted to schedule time in Lisbon itself). Does anyone know if there are decent shops at the airport to pick up a reasonable bottle or two? Looking for good QPR, ready to drink.

Re: 20 year tawny tasting

Provisionally interested, although dates in October are a little tricky.
On the plus side, I am going to be in Lisbon airport next week and therefore might be able to pick up an elusive 20yo.

Re: "Hello"

Hi Andrea I think Alex has given a full reply in another thread - he is far more experienced at visiting Porto! To re-iterate from above, the Taylor's restaurant was superb and provided an excellent break in the middle of the day. I would add that as all of my travel was on foot, finding a good map ...

Re: Port for sale by retailer

For those who like old LBVs, Lay & Wheeler appear to have 12 bottles of Warre 1979 Traditional LBV at £21.50 each.

Yes... recently renamed from the TFP restaurant on the hill. Apparently they too have a decent supply of port.

Having recently seen that there appears to be a whole enlightened (and tolerant) category of members with the "SCP-" prefix to their name, I would like to assert that these are my actual initials!

1999 Vesuvio

Doubly decanted 6 hours before dinner. Cheeky sip, "round" is the most apt descriptor. Dinner: Steak followed by dark chocolate and earl grey torte. Went well with the steak... Dark chocolate torte plus vesuvio had each person who tried it convulsing (in a good way) - this packs a huge pun...

Re: Quinta´s styles

Hmmm, after a few good initial suggestions within reasonable parameters, I must admit my error. The correct way to garner knowledge of a house style is to try a range of vintages from that house from release all, then subsequently every other year, with scrupulous objective tasting notes... better g...

Re: Quinta´s styles

Thanks Ronnie and Moses, so useful info there. I understand about there is some bottle variation and a vintage can only be made from the grapes they harvest, but a good starting point nevertheless :nirvana: Cheers!

Re: Quinta´s styles

As someone with almost no VP experience, I'd be interested to hear from the more experienced hands, if there any particular vintages that epitomise some of the key components in the tastes of a house for you (probably limited to 1970 onwards for cost/sourcing)? Thanks!

Re: "Hello"

Thanks, I'll bear that in mind when I'm back in town for good, very much lacking anything like storage space at the moment so a collection to provide "interesting" bottles from is currently wanting - but a work in progress.

"Hello"

Hi A child of the 80s here from Oxford, but soon moving back to London :) Enjoyed port for the last 8 years, but gradually been shifted my tastes northwards quality-wise - a perfect time to join this port forum. A brief thanks as I've been very impressed by the collection of tasting notes (and looke...
