Re: 27 Nov 2013, The Bung Hole, 83@30

I may well be too late but if not, can I be put down for this tasting-or else add me to the reserve list? I know I have a Graham's 83 I can put up although not sure what else.

Re: Port for sale at auction

I note that the price paid at Strakers for the N75 and Beresford 80 was £68.40 (inc BP) and so if DRT is able to take a chunk out of this that would be mildly satisfying!

Re: Port for sale at auction

Unless it's a coincidence (which it's not) then that Niepoort '75 has popped up on bid for wine. Talking of bfw I noticed that the three bottles of G70 didn't last long a someone from here perchance?! Anyone having an interest in the bonhams sale next week? I see that the buyer's premium has been in...

Re: Port for sale at auction

Interesting how Strakers charge a flat rate Buyer's Premium of £8.40 (inc VAT) per lot-good for cases but less so for small lots (and there are quite a few individually lotted bottles of Port). As Tom says, not much of interest-which is a pity as I'm driving down the M4 the following Friday and so w...

Re: Tuesday, October 8th, London, "Bring a bottle to share"

With Alex opting for the Martinez and not the Cockburn, can I be put down for a Cockburn '70?

Re: Taylors 1992 Vintage port for sale

At a Dreweatts auction today, a case of Taylor's 92 sold for £700 (so £825 inc Buyer's Premium)-somewhat shy of the asking price here!

Re: Port for sale at auction

Probably sage words indeed Tom, especially now in hindsight I've founded I've secured zip (wife will be happy though!). I felt I knew a little bit about prices (albeit with little auction experience), but it would seem that with hammer prices averaging over 20% above upper estimate for the lots I bi...

Same as Uncle Tom-although being a novice probably means I've made a horlicks of it and I'll either end up with nothing or have to pawn the wife's jewellery!

I will be making my annual appearance at the gbbf (I go back to when it was held in Brighton in the late 80s). I'll certainly be there on the Saturday but probably on the Tuesday as well.

Re: Quevedo 2011, UK in-bond

I'd certainly be interested in an order-though alas, not 585 litres or 30 Imperials for that matter. Who's co-ordinating this end or is it individual PMs/e-mails to Oscar and then a bulk consignment? If I could also get hold of some over 40yrs at the same time, so much the better!

1945 Taylor's VP

First of all, I'll leave it to the powers that be to move this to another category since this is less a TN than an experience note! I'd mentioned in a previous submission that I was going to be opening a bottle of Taylor's 1945 at my nuptials. This duly took place on 26 April. The bottle was decante...

Re: Port for sale by retailer

A bit late to the Sainsbury 2003 TTD thread, but having ventured out yesterday (Sunday) just before closing time, the local 'big' Sainsbury had a decent enough stock still left but more to the point were offering a further 25% off per 6 bottles purchased. This means they come in at £11.24 a bottle. ...

The double decant is noted. Assume that this is not blind and so need to mask? Might also try and rustle up a bottle of brown sticky stuff in case of anything unforeseen!

I have VPs that satisy this criterion but isn't decant time going to be a problem? Bottle would have to be brought up (on the train), on the day.

Re: Wed 17th April - Oscar Quevedo

I am tempted by this in view of the fact that I've recently asked for a few words on Quevedo on a separate post to accompany the table named after said Port House at my upcoming nuptials (serendipitious?). However, I will require guidance as to what to bring and an indication as to typical expenditu...

Re: Quinta do Quevedo

Thanks g-man et al, that gives me enough material to work with. BTW, just for the record, the other tables are named after the more straightforward houses of: Taylor's;Dow;Graham's;Noval;Fonseca and Sandeman! Oh and my location is Hampshire, UK.

Just polishing off that 2004 Quevedo LBV as I type!

Quinta do Quevedo

This may be one for G-Man to provide some input, but having put together some wording to accompany the other port-named tables at my upcoming wedding (which reflect the Port miniatures I managed to purchase on my recent trip to Porto), I now need some wording for Quevedo. I think I was paying more a...

After a bit of detective work (or more precisely following the the penned line on the map drawn by the lady on hotel reception!) I can confirm that the name of that lovely homespun restaurant was Adega Sao Nicolau. Great food, great wine and great value! Phew- I can now move away from Cruz Ruby!

Re: Porto in Feb

Ok, a brief update on our trip to Porto the other week. In terms of accommodation, would highly recommend the pousada-the Palacio Do Freixo, a wonderfully converted old civil building with plenty of character. It's about a 1/2hr walk (on the airport side) along the river to the Ribeira quayside (but...

Yes, I realise I should have posed the questions a bit earlier but hopefully there's still time until we go on Thursday pm to garner a few more responses. Porto in Feb

Off to Porto this Thurs, 4th time for me but first for my better half. Aside from Vinologia and the Solar vdp, anyone got any other suggestions re Port drinking holes? And what about eating establishments-been a few years since I last went but I remember Chez Lapin being good (obviously, the Yeatman...
