Vesuvio is massive and I was fortunate to stand at the very top of it, at the old guards building, with several forum members. Its an awsome view and it really gives you a sense of just how big the place is. However, as much as it produces, very little actually ends up as "Vesuvio" Vingate...

Some people do have insurance, some don't. However, The President just signed a major disaster bill. That gives people federal money to help rebuilt their homes. Good news for those that lost their homes.

Southern California Wildfires

WOW, has it been surreal here the past few days. It feels like all of So. Cal. is on fire, and it almost all is. Over 1/2 millon people have been evacuated the past few days, the largest evacuation in California's history  The air quality is terrible, and after spending all day at work yester...

Vesuvio 1996 Only 65 pipes were produced. Notes from last year. Very dark with some slight fading at the rim. Smooth and silky on the palate with lots of cedar/cigar box and some fresh fruit. A very nice floralness makes this an easy sipper. However, it is lacking in needed tannins to carry it for ...

Alan & Axel,

I agree, Graham's LBVs have always been a favorite of mine for a nicely priced filtered LBV. Graham's seems to have a bit more complexity than other filtered LBVs in the same category.

So I found this at a wine store and picked it up. There were two bottles, but one showed signs of a couple drops of leakage. Looked like old seepage, but I passed on it. Seems Noval did do a Single Quinta VP, at least in 1983. Here is a pic of the bottle I just picked up. http://farm3.static.flickr....

A couple hours on and the nose has a strong black licorice that is now dominating the black plums and blackberries. The palate is very silky and no longer sharp. There is some red cherries laced with a little smokeness and gravel, and a very slight touch of mint which is very unusual but nice. This ...

2000 Graham's LBV

Just pulled the cork on this one. Color is very dark purple. The nose has some black plums and blackberry. The palate is a little sharp right now but some soft blackberries, a nice amount of acidity that keeps it from being to heavy on the palate. Still some tannins, but just enough to let you know ...

Did Quinta do Noval ever make a single quinta

Does anyone know if Noval ever produced a single quinta VP? I mean something labeled as such, for example: Taylor's does Vargellas as a SQVP.

Did Noval ever do this? Any information would be appreciated.

thanks

I will send an email to a contact at Bermester and see if she can shed any light on it.

As for the Garrafiera, I would assume it was a colheita as it has an old style selo de guarante on it, as if it was a vintage, it would have been bottled 2-3 years later and before the selo existed.

The way the law was explained by a producer to me was (for a current vintage release) for every bottle they put out for sale, they have to have 2 retained by the producer.

Ok this has got to be one of the worst labels for VP. I really like their Ports, but they've got to do something about the little ugly label. The pic makes it look a lot better than in person. it looks like a small label maker and a home computer did it. http://www.quintadoportal.com/images/art1.jpg

Ohh boy, here we go

Iwish they'd all just go back to painted labels. They never fall off, never rot, last almost forever, and just look cool. Ohh, and tell them to put the cool white paint splash back on the bottles. I know it don't mean diddly, really, but it does looks so cool 88)

honestly, the Taylor 1985 is not worth the money. Its gotta be one of the worst declared vintages they've produced in a long time. The best bottle I've ever had was at the Taylors lodge recently...and off of memory, was 87-88 points at best. I've had several bottles of this and they're all over the ...

I have a case of 1/2 bottles and none are leaking, the same goes for the several 750s I have. I don't think there is an organisim problem. All the leakers I've seen were from full bottles. Dirk did admit the issue and has replaced some bottles in the recent past. A bottling run is a hugh amount of b...
