Generalised form: Page is divided into CxR "cells" with T tasting notes per cell. i.e. C = Number of columns per sheet R = Number of rows per sheet (n.b. rows of cells, not tasting note rows) T = Number of tasting notes per cell For 8 tasting notes per page, your preference is 2,1,4; mine ...

I'm considering it as A6 book, and then parameter tastingNotesPerA6Page, in this case =2. Previous example was =3.

Re: Software that makes placemats

No flaw in your intention, just a difference of preference. Mine is for A6 book (=A5 open as two-page with centre vertical fold, or A6 folded). Yours provides capability for sub-A6, but at the cost of less optimal A6 book.

Re: Thu 15 December 2022 - The Port Forum's 15th Xmas Tasting

Please critique or approve. Tentative approval. A suggestion; when folded, I would expect we will fold at mid of long side first, then the other, such that the created A6-book has the fold at spine, not bottom. Having done this, with the current arrangement we would have 1,2,3 on left, and 5,6,7 on...

Re: Thu 15 December 2022 - The Port Forum's 15th Xmas Tasting

However, if anyone would need to drop out if the rail strike goes ahead, please let me know. On the assumption that the strike will go ahead, I've now also booked into the Cricketers on the assumption I'll be travelling by car; I would therefore also now be looking to share taxis if possible. Is Os...

Re: Good Housekeeping - Best Ports 2022

Is this some weird "less is more"-type scale? 80/100 for a 20yo, 77/100 for a Bomfim single quinta VP...but 84 for some run of the mill tawny, and 86 for a ruby reserve (hey, it's organic!). The scoring does seem to be utterly bizarre, especially since their "worthy of a special occa...

Thanks to George for suggesting and organising this, and everyone else who helped. While there were no real star wines in this tasting, it was interesting to compare the two vineyards across a range of ages. The '91s and '95s were certainly the best of the wines on the night; there was some debate a...

Thanks to Simon for highlighting the strike change; I am now staying over, so will not have to rush off quite as soon.

For food please:
- starter: Grilled flatbread with lemon and coriander houmous
- main: Sirloin medium-rare, fries, green beans (happy to share) and please, please béarnaise sauce

That sounds like a nice event; unfortunately not a date I can make, but it's an interesting pair of years to compare; and I've been very impressed by the W97 in particular recently. On a cheeky note, I hope they bring enough bottles of D77 ;)

Re: The 1980s & quality

reports of corked port bottles stopped appearing when bottles approached their 40th year - the same time that the wine fully saturates the cork. There are a very few exceptions, but these can put down either to the bottle being mis-identified as corked, or late released bottles that were re-corked ...

@GEAG - I think it might be difficult to find the TV87. There was only a single confirmed sighting for the TV vertical next year, and I suspect it might be being held back for that tasting. How about the 2005 instead? That’s readily available. A&M have half a dozen TV87 listed at £78/bt inc, de...

I'm not sure about the relative production quantities, but I would agree in general regarding quality. There are a few exceptions; F85 and T85 are both excellent, and the Ch85 has been very good drinking for the last decade though may not have the same longevity, and personally I would add Ch82 in t...
