2000 Ramos-Pinto

2000 Ramos-Pinto : as part of the secret-squirrel project known only as ‟Drink Up JDAW’s USA-Located Port”, this youngster was broached. Decanted at 1pm, when samples were mailed to Brooklyn and New Jersey hopefully notes on them will appear later. Very dark opaque near-black, fading (if that is t...

G75 is not worth the effort. (Because it’s a ’75, and the G75 has never impressed me. They declared because the new post-revolution government wanted it. Revolutions grown old always lose their fruit.) This may well be in Brooklyn (Jay?). Whether there or in a restaurant it will need to finish by mi...

Re: London Colheita tasting - date tbc

So two people definitely can’t make 5th Feb, and I might be able to. So on that date attendance would be at most two, more likely one, and maybe none.

Let’s try a date other than 5th Feb.

If it were Thursday 5th February, then there would be a good chance that I could attend. Friday 6th I’ll be in Cambridge.

Tastings, samplings, and the like, by retailers etc.

This thread is to host announcements of tastings, samplings, trials, and such-like promotions held by retailers, off-licences, and even auction houses. But this not for events requiring :tpf: to arrange or organise.

Noval 1985, the following day, with Eric D, who reported a nose of ‟stale fried chicken”. To taste more sweetness and less brightness than the previous day. More acidic. Too long in the decanter.

1989½Â±4½ Cálem: the following day, with Eric D, all I wrote was ‟So much bigger than the pieces. And longer than the pieces.” I recall it being better on the first day, but even on the second a worthwhile blend. Eric D suggested buying both parts so that his house port could be the blend.

The following day, with Eric D, this was basically the same but blander. The nose initially had a funk that blew off, then molasses and plums. Taste same but blander.

Re: 1985 Cálem

The following day, with Eric, the Cálem 1985 still smelt of acid and stink. :-( Tasted of same barley sugar, and heat. ED said ‟candied citron”, and ‟milk chocolate”, I agreeing with the former.

Re: 1985 Dow

The following day, so after 54 hours in the decanter, Dow 1985 the same colour, and not a lot of nose, with menthol. To taste lovely. Long mouth-filling sweetness. The funk all gone, a little heat on tongue. Lovely. D85 really needs this long in the decanter at room temperature too. Excellent port.

Re: 1983 Dow

The following day, with Eric for company, the 1983 Dow was very very soft. ‟No bite”, I wrote. More unctuous, but all the pepper had gone. Lacks grip too long in the decanter.
