Re: Real/Royal, Guedes, and Hooper

I recently bought a Velha Royal Oporto 81, for £30 as an oddity, only to hear Jules destroy it as similar to 75's. Oh well, another one to drink with friends whilst hoarding the good stuff!

Go Buddy Go.

What a crap song! It was played on the radio because Peaches was deemed to sexual. How times a change.

I was a teenager when Punk was at its height, remember buying all those coloured vinyl's?

Re: What's the point in all the rubies?

Could I offer an off the wall answer to why a company may have so many types of Rubies.....because they are not that good. Who doesn't look at such bottles and then slide a glance at the nearby bottles that you know are clearly better. Yet you only want a cheap glass for a few nights (And I know it ...

Re: Club Function, Men Only

Thanks for the advice. I plumped for the 'under the table' option. It went well and I only gave away a third of a bottle for tastes. The after speaker was a German ex-Captain of a local Club. He played on the fact that the Germans are perceived to have a limited and unusual sense of humour. The iron...

Club Function, Men Only

I'm attending the Spring Dinner at the Club. Evening suit, and meal, wine and Port is obligatory. After Dinner Speakers will be weak. The Port is going to be Taylors First Estate...so a crisis. I could take a couple of bottles of Dows 77 I recently purchased (Got 6 for £30 a bottle), but would it be...

Re: What are you drinking?

Sorry to hear about the Credit Crunch biting at a few of you. I found 2 dozen bottles of Dows Renown at £5 a bottle. So of course it became my house Port. Marvelous with Spag Boll, or creamy steaks. Also the end of night tipple when I'm swaying gently, and the good stuff will be wasted. And for all ...

Buying a Grahams 80 and XO Courvoisier for £80 off a Scouse Ebay seller tomorrow. Taking my life in my hands and all that! Deb still thinks she will drink it with coke. And of course there is no harm in thinking.

Re: 1994 Martinez

When Martinez is at it's height, it is light coloured and fragrant, as opposed to fruity and dark. It often takes a little longer to show, than others. Earlier, it willl be hot and alcoholic. The phrase 'jammy' also makes me think it is still a little young and brutal. Of course I'd only be sure wit...

Is that a bit like the bloke who asked the Ticket Seller in the Rail Ticket Office for a return ticket.
"Certainly Sir", replied the Ticket Seller, "Where to?"
"Back here" came the riposte!

Re: One quiz at a time

This could be amusing if I'm wrong, but as it's you Alex, and your a Southern Softie, could I suggest the following to put you out of your misery in Lancashire matters. The Lancaster Canal starts in the Borough of Kendal. It then traverses, surprisingly enough, through the Borough of Lancaster, befo...

Luc,

how the Devil are you? Are you still sharing the odd wicked Colheita with you Mum?

Still having the odd Peanut Butter Sandwich?

Still fighting that crazy Canadian Government fiddle on Port prices?

Best Regards,

Re: A Blonde On a Plane!

I'm still about. Even though your site needs a polish and a kick up the arse, it's about Port, so I still love to read what you guys are saying about port, once a month. I'm currently mending a bruised ego. The Vermin beat the World Champions. I've been searching the Statutes, but it appears that it...

You've made a right Balls Up of this Forum.

What the Bloody hell have you done to this Forum??? You have taken a unique and stylish Port Forum and changed it into a pale imitation of FTLOP. You had them on the run for a bit. Humour, irrelevance, loads of Port topics, and a nice mixture of contributors. I dont think the FTLOP guys will be look...

Oh well, Derek's question, and the resulting answers may be beyond us for the moment, but thanks for letting us know.

Just to let you know I'm focussing on the British Open Golf and my Clubs Marshalling efforts at the moment, but when that finishes, I'll be asking who's available for the second half of August, or there abouts. Plus what format, etc, if it gets off the ground. The Open finishes on the 20th July. (an...

Cheers Tom, I knew a bit about Cold Filtering. They even use that as a gimmick for beers nowadays, but I'd just not heard the Stabilising phrase before.

Cold Stabilising?

Anyone fancy explaining this term, on which Ports it is a part of the process, and how it is done.

It came up in one of Toms Tawny Tasting Notes, and it's a new one to me.

So thats sorted then.

Germany v Turkey,

Spain v Russia.

I've been with Spain all the way, but Russia didn't half look useful. I'll hope Germany, for the lads on the Forum, but suspect the winner comes from the other Semi.

I'm a little worse the wear, so bear with me. I feel Martinez is subtle and light, whereas Fonseca and Dow is powerful. Both types are good in there own ways, but as much as I laud Martinez, nothing beats a Fonseca in its prime.

I love listening to those who haven't got my bias, but still enjoy it.

Axel,

I'm drinking that one as well. No point in doing Tasting Notes, I've had all sorts of other drinks prior to it, and I'm on the decking with a mate, giving it large!

He thinks its lovely and smooth as well.

Halbfinale - ohoh, Halbfinale ohohoh. A great 94 Noval VP and an outstanding game. What a great increase in performance. Though the games beforehand were absolutely poop and I would not have bet a nickel on the Ballack&Co.-team: Victories are always more precious when they are unexpected. So, I...
