Re: London Quinta De Vargellas tasting - 24th March
Please could the placemat-maker (hereby assumed to be me) have a simple noddy guide as to what is being drunk by whom?

Or you could say, Julian and five other people. If this were some other night than either April 17 or 18, such as April 19, I would be happy to join and drink what little Julian leaves. Slanderous! I wont leave any. Any night in the neighbourhood of the 18th works for me, though not the following w...

Re: Drying decanters
But some decanters are dry in minutes that doesn’t sound like something dependent on air circulation. Is the slow-drying decanter coated in a hydrophobic material that causes the water to bunch together into slower-drying mist-appearing droplets? Whereas the fast are hydrophilic, so retain a thin fi...

Wife + newborn child excludes chez moi. Other than that constraint, I’m generally amenable to whatever others favour. Chez Jeff? Steak house? Either.

Re: NV Costa de Baixo 20 year tawny Port (Bottled in 200X)
Thank you Josh for the sample, which I drank yesterday and on which I forgot to take notes. Vague recollections include: cloudy; initial heat, then a citrus-type note; very enjoyable. Thank you.

Re: Apostrophe crimes
Not quite an apostrophe crime merely a general failure to know that no crime had been committed. Here DRT wrote:it toppled over and broke its neck

Note: Possible apostrophe crime "its". I never can remember that one.
Reminder:
- it’s = it is;
- its = possessive.

Re: Drying decanters
The ring is better, but only for decanters that are round with a gently sloping neck. Square and square-shouldered decanters (i.e., square when seen from top or from side) work less well with the ring.
And yes, they are quite strong enough that a decanter can be left on them safely.

Re: Drying decanters
I use a decanter dryer similar to that described by Derek, and rinse with extremely hot water. And, for all of my decanters except one, dryness is achieved in minutes. But one resists, acquiring a gentle mist that takes days to evaporate.

Drying decanters
After washing in hot water, some of my decanters dry very quickly. Others, in particular the one holding the Warre Quinta da Cavadinha 1986 currently being consumed, seem to acquire a ‘mist’ that takes many days to dry. I have one decanter that does the same thing, the rest don't...wierd! Please, w...

Warre Quinta da Cavadinha 1986: the following day there’s a hint only a hint of roughness, with a rather pleasant refreshing note. Quaffable, but nothing special and at its best.

Re: A complete vertical of 20th century vintages of Taylor
If this is turning into a serious attempt at organising a non-serious Taylor vertical, perhaps the non-serious attempt at organising a serious vertical ought to be split somewhere more appropriate? On the serious point, is it worth baring in mind that there’s a Vargellas vertical in March and the ‟...

It seems we need to identify a few more vintages. Here are those that I currently have at least some tenuous evidence of existence: Taylor 1863 Taylor 1870 Taylor 1872 Taylor 1873 Taylor 1875 Taylor 1878 Taylor 1880 Taylor 1881 Taylor 1884 Taylor 1887 Taylor 1890 Taylor 1892 Taylor 1895 Taylor 1896...

A Taylor vertical, quite large
AHB started a thread, seemingly in jest, entitled A complete vertical of 20th century vintages of Taylor . The conversation went downhill from there. But: My UK stocks include 1912 1924 1927 1948 1955 1963 1970 1977 1980 1985 and, though it probably wouldn’t be needed, 1985 in magnum. We’d need a lo...

The vintages I listed above are located in the UK. Yes, this is a UK-located tasting.
