Re: The Ides of March Offline, 2011

It seems that no-one is volunteering to help Derek and I tomorrow night. If anyone changes their mind at the last minute, we should be there from a little after 5pm.

Re: may tasting in the UK?

OMG WHEN DID THE TAXES AND FEES COST > COST OF THE FLIGHT?????? Since about April 1995, when I flew to Dublin for £1 and the next month the government realised they wereissing one of the pleasures of life from their list of things to tax. Now you have to pay tax on alcohol, tobacco, holidays and sex.

Re: Help required to improve port collection

1992 was declared by Taylor Fladgate, and generally it is Fonseca and Taylor that are attracting high prices. If you can find the second tier wines from the Symington Family Estates, these might represent good value for money - Malvedos, for example. 1992 was also declared by Niepoort and Noval and ...

Thursday March 10th, Crusting Pipe, London

A fun blind tasting last night, where we were looked after very well once more - and when I was reminded that if we want rib-eye on the bone we can order them in advance when we book the room! It was a little confusing, with people dropping in, turning up late and leaving early, but all told there w...

Re: may tasting in the UK?

You may find 29th April is tough to get accommodation in London as that is the day of the Royal Wedding. Also, as that is only a 3 day week in the UK due to Monday and Friday being public holidays, we will probably find it very difficult to organise a well attended offline on either of those days. I...

Re: Thursday March 10th, Crusting Pipe, London

I am taking the decision for everyone to switch to full bottles so as to ensure portion sizes are not compromised. I may be bringing a guest (KD, right handed) but will not be able to confirm until tomorrow. I will contact TCP later tonight to switch from the Office to a larger table in the tunnels.

Re: Thursday March 10th, Crusting Pipe, London

Wolfgang, Rob,

Please let me know asap if you will be at TCP on Thursday. I need to know as the office will only hold 6 and if all the potential participants turn up, we will be 7.

In case there are further latecomers, I may change from 2 half bottles to a full bottle. Any thoughts?

Re: Thursday March 10th, Crusting Pipe, London

Julian - draft tasting mats reviewed. Please include the sticky labels - these were very useful last time (even if I did get a little confused with the best way to use them after having consumed half a bottle of F77). Please add THRA to the place mats, although this may make the layout of the pages ...
