Re:
Olive oil has molecules that are partially soluble - when a tiny amount is placed on the surface of water it will spread to form a film that is as little as one molecule thick, sealing the surface from air contact. If the Romans - or anyone else - uses a earthenware pitcher to store wine that has b...

Re: Books About Port and Other Stuff
Was looking at Books About Riiculous Ideas. I do not allow such books in my house, such ideas have, however, managed to seek in through the back door in the form of verse. From the pen of Sir William Topaz McGonagall poet and Tragedian Knight of the White Elephant of Burmah I offer: The Destroying A...

Does this mean that you will be leaving any future offers like the Croft 2004 unfilterd lbv in Tesco's on the shelf to avoid paying a higher % of tax? All the more left for the rest of us!DRT wrote:The solution is to only drink expensive wineAW77 wrote:57 % vat on wine????????

Rangers Football Club heading for administration again!
Rangers (variously known as Sevco 5088, Sevco Scotland ltd, The Rangers Football Club, Sevconians, Rangers International Football Club ltd., and Schrodingers FC) yesterday had an offer of 15% pay cut rejected by players. Earlier in the week one of the initial investors sold their penny shares to ass...

Re: Cooking with Port
[quote="DRT"]I once created a very interesting Port reduction. The recipe is as follows:
I have produced a similar result with different ingredients a couple of times.
Last year I made jelly with Japanese quince and most of a bottle of Croft Purple Velvet, it's delicious.

Alcoholics are being paid in beer to clean the streets of Amsterdam as part of a project partly funded by the Dutch government - the organisers think other countries should abandon "old-fashioned political correctness" and adopt the same approach. Rene scours the streets, grasping at disc...

Re: Apostrophe crimes
Perhaps harsh, but the subject is plural rather than singular so I think there is a case to be answered! Darwin was writing his Origin of the species Not sure on the proposed singular/plural crime, though I did misquote the title which should have been (On the) Origin of Species. Excuse my pedantry...

Re: It's just not cricket
OK - back on topic. This match is hideously boring. The only things that are happening are (a) Australia clocking up 3 runs per over and (b) Stuart Broad roaring like an idiot every time he is the only person on the planet who thinks he's just taken a wicket. So, in the absence of anything exciting...
