Re: Wed 24th April 2013 (post-BFT), 2007 LBVs, The Bung Hole

Actually I will bring some of this (a bottle, maybe two, but not, as implied in the link, a case: sorry, jdaw). Damn I bought one of those today, for £13.84: ‟Bottled by Quinta & Vineyard Bottlers”. Are M&S the only chain grocers supplied by Taylor Fladgate? Or are other BOBs Taylor? Most ...

Re: Vintage Port to Sell

Hello to the wife-selling correspondents, An interesting suggestion - particularly as we celebrated our RUBY wedding last sunday. Does anyone know of a suitable forum for such transactions? Are there accepted terms for describing condition? Yes, have you visited TheWifeForum.com? Some of the same h...

Re: Tue 28th May?

Axel cannot make that date.. The Warre LBV issue seems to be far too political and above my pay grade, I couldn't possibly decide to do something of this magnitude when the NATO tasting in September is still on the cards (is it still on the cards?). DHT's wonderful suggestion of 'bring a bottle wrap...

Do you have one of these, or just a very steady hand?! http://www.winecare.co.uk/acatalog/gd2131.jpg Tonight, I watched The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes, one of Billy Wilder's strangest films.. Re: Tue 28th May?

There are indeed many possibilities. An SQVP theme? Bomfim vertical? But then you've just had a Dowathon. 1980 horizontal? I admit I'm intrigued by the Cálem. But then I'll do anything really. I have PMed Axel so we shall see what he says.

Patience, mes amis...

Re: Tue 28th May?

Themes proposed but not yet done, so needing a date, include Warre LBVs and Axel’s Cálem Vertical . Please do take charge. These both seem excellent ideas which are already fairly well-advanced in terms of sourcing the requisite materials. My first instinct is to say 'Cálem', just because they're V...

2010 Dow Quinta Senhora da Ribeira

Bought two bottles of this at Weingalerie, Berlin.. I'd heard from a few places that this was a very good drinking port now, so decided to pop one last night to accompany a steak.. I wasn't sure about the best way to let this wine present itself so young, but followed the recommendations of Paul Sym...

Re: Douro in Sept for the harvest

Both 2010 and 2011 we have stayed at Quinta de la Rosa and waking up in the morning smelling the grape must fermenting in the Lagares is in it self sufficent reason to visit the valley during the harvest. Booked. We're travelling about a little but if you're at QdlR between the 12th and the 18th of...

May I just point out that I am replying to your posts while DJing a night of music from all over Africa? Re: The Dirty Dozen - London, 23 April 2013

I like the idea of the proposed names for the first 12 ports, but find the last two less evocative. Instead of "mature port" and "immature port", how about "Saint Peter" and "Saint Paul", being the two patron saints of Rome and therefore linking your themes f...

1990 Graham Malvedos

Decanted 2 hours before drinking. Very dark, 70-80%, pink at the rim. On the first night this showed very little. Nose was tight and closed, a little harshness (is this VA? I don't know). On the palate it was immediately soft, very velvety in fact, but not particularly rich. I thought I noticed almo...

Was ist Portwein? http://www.danieljewesbury.org/portwein.jpg An entertaining booklet published for the German market in 1938 (conveniently, this had recently been unified into a single trading area..)
