Carmes de Rieussec

Today I went to my wine cellar and very surprisingly did not come out with a bottle of PORT, but a bottle of the second wine of Rieussec, Les Carmes de Rieussec which is labeled differently in other countries, such as Switzerland, where it is labeled as Chateau du Cosse (it took me quiete a while to...

VINDOURO

Guys, there is a small but worthy to visit Wine-fair in Sao Joao da Pesqueira on September 6th, called the Vindouro. Sao Joao da Pesqueira is fairly close to Pinhao. For everyone who knows a bit german, here is the link to the article from last year: http://www.worldofport.com/Download/World_of_Port...

I will be in VNG on September 05th, will depart to Vesuvio on the following day to visit the Vindouro-Festival, stay the night at Vesuvio with the courtesy of Dominic Symington and have a tasting there.

P.S.: That is as well the weekend of the Red Bull Airrace in Porto!

Julian, I think your support and genius on the placemats is really worth mentioning more than once. You were so kind and helped me out at the Grahams vertical, which I did really appreciate. Again: muito obrigado and looking forward to share the next bottle (most probably Cockburn) with you. Cheers ...

Most of the producers do sell their ports in "waves". I had that recently on the 85s of Taylors. Since the label style varies with age, some producers put their new label (or lets say: newer label) on the bottle when they sell it, as most producers will not label all their bottles at the s...

Julian, from my recent experience with the fortysomething 2005s I can say that you can determine the overall quality fairly good. A couple of things have to be there, such as alcohol, tannins, acidity and - of course -: fruit. Everything has to be there, but it is running in individual tracks, so fa...

That was exactly the point. A little over 2 hours. I know that the Vesuvio does get better when one allows him some decanting time, but it is amazingly seducive directely after you open the bottle.

Derek,

I had a phenomenon with the Vesuvio twice now. I opened a bottle of 94 and it was very good right from the start.

Any chance to get some good scotish breakfast on one of the tops?

Hey Ronnie,

terrific read. I feel very sorry that I have not been able to meet you at this tasting due to my stay in Ireland.

What a pitty as these tastings are very rarely on the continent.

Maybe some other time.

2006 Quinta de Roriz

2006 Roriz (cask sample) Very dark crimson color. Middelweight structure. Nose: overwhelmingly fruity with just a little alcohol and acidity. No tannins. Slight tobacco in the background. Mouth: More complex than the nose offers. All the parts are there: fruit, alcohol, acidity, slight lack of tann...

There is however a 66 which was not declared but produced. It should be very poop, so there is no need looking for.

As I already booked a flight I might catch an earlier. When do you guys want to start the tasting?

Tom, this is an outstandingly interesting topic of which I am thinking of for very long now. Back in the 90s I had a bottle of 20y old Noval which was bottled in 73. It was fabulous and I told myself, better to keep a couple of the bottles. As well did I recently had a lot of Colheitas bottled back ...

Alex, could you please update the lineup and start a poll which of the missing VPs we should try to get. I would ask Miguel if he would be willing to sell us some if I know wich one to ask for. Miguel already offered to bring the (never declared) 77, 97, 2000, 2003 and a cask sample of the 2007. Axe...

I was drunk from the LBV before I left to a couple of turkish friends to enjoy the quarter-final with them, but I was totally hammered when I came back tonight. 1995 Warre LBV (special thanks to Killer Bee)

Very dark red (almost black) with minimum signs of age, but a fairly watery consistence. The nose is very fruity with a strong rasberry touch. Sweet spices and tar. In the mouth it continues the nose with more tar and some tobacco. The aftertaste is slightly acidic, but definitely alcoholic. The win...

Halbfinale - ohoh, Halbfinale ohohoh. A great 94 Noval VP and an outstanding game. What a great increase in performance. Though the games beforehand were absolutely poop and I would not have bet a nickel on the Ballack&Co.-team: Victories are always more precious when they are unexpected. So, Im...

Jacob,

that's the same in Germany. The LBVs are on the top end of the pricing level (but on the top end of the quality level as well) and the VPs are on the very cheap side and only slight aspects better than the LBVs.
