Re: Opinions on a Dow's Vertical

Purchasing a new home and was thinking I could get a few extras for the home if I created a 2000s Dow's Vintage Port Vertical. One bottle each of 2000, 2003, 2007 and 2011. I have enough of each that losing one bottle of each would hardly be noticed. The question I pose is: what do you think a fair...

Re: 17th May 2015: Atonal music & port drinking in New York

Just to update - we have the offer of a private apartment with garden in the Lower East side for use for the port tasting, from which we can then relocate ourselves for dinner. How are we all doing on emailing possibilities for JDAW to choose between? How complete is the list? And what are arrangem...

Re: 17th May 2015: Atonal music & port drinking in New York

Suggested themes: a selection of 70s, or, a selection of 77's, or a smaller selection of 70vs77. I would suggest we also omit Fonseca; it always shows well from both years and we would have a more educational evening without it as a result. Alternatively, an Oddities theme. Please could there be, f...

Re: 17th May 2015: Atonal music & port drinking in New York

If it would help, I could be the Centre (or Center). PM me some possible bottles, and I will select such that, as far as possible, neither shippers nor vintages match. i like it! attendees, please send three options to jdaw that he may impartially select. if anyone needs me to provide an adoptable,...

Just to confirm, the preference is still Steakhouse?

I'll throw some themes out here this week: I'm packing up the port cellar (we're moving) so it's a great opportunity to pick a couple of "I have one of these?" ports :)

You are right, Sunday is May 17 and that is the day we should aim for. What if it was during the day (like 2-6), instead of in the evening? Would that work for you?

Re: A night of atonal music and port drinking in New York Ci

As always, I will be far more likely to secure us a venue that can accommodate lots of bottles (at low/no corkage) if we don't aim for a friday or saturday evening. That said, I'll start with May 16th as our target date, but we may need to go with Thurs May 21st or Fri May 22nd as alternatives. Glen...

Merits of 1983 versus 1985

First 31 posts of this thread moved by jdaw1 from Summarise a vintage, concisely . Since I'm late to the party: Great topic, and I'm enjoying reading everyone's responses. I would suggest amending 85 from "some great ports, some very good, most merely average" to "some excellent port...

Anyone heard of or tried "Quinta de Honor" ? There's an aged tawny and a 97 in a shop near me, but it appears to be an unknown here on TPF.

They had something quite wonderful at Borough Market that we rarely get in the states -- small game. Pheasants, quail, rabbit, etc.

SushiNorth did that in London. PM him. I highly recommend Marlin -- they did right by us, and provided a 1 BR w/ a nice kitchen. They also have studios, if you are looking for something smaller. We enjoyed the London Bridge location, as it was a stones throw from Borough Market. So we ate well at t...
