Re: Anyone for a ‟Are we wasting our money?” tasting?

Is this restricted to ruby/ruby reserve or lbv?

You can get some nice crusted ports for under £15 - are they out of the running?

Re: Monday 8th November

I will certainly be around and can take care of the admin side (though JDAW may receive a panicked email the preceding weekend if his software turns out to be more complicated than he intimated at the 55 tasting). Current attendees: Oscar Cookie Jacob H + Caroline RAYC Ben Read (possibly) KillerB (m...

Re: 1955 Horizontal, Tuesday 12th October 2010, RAF Club London

I too had a fantastic evening, and would like to reiterate the thanks to all the usual suspects named upthread. My first impression, other than pleasing waft of port that had filled the entire RAF club lobby by the time I arrived, was the consistency of colour across the flights (and later, JDAW's a...

Re: Monday 8th November

I will certainly be around - I actually tried to visit Oscar's winery when I cycled through S. Jaoa da Pesquiera over the summer - unfortunately my investigations were cut short and i was chased off by a pack of rather unruly dogs who did not like the look of my bike!

Re: Crusted port database

Tom, I was just quoting from the website in my post - am not anything to do with the quinta myself. Looks like there is a bottling date on the label, though I've seen that AHB has tried some of their "Lote No.06" ( http://www.theportforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3099&p=27618&hi...

Re: Crusted port database

How do the Vale Dona Maria "Lote No. XX" ports fit into the IVDP classifications? It is billed as an "unfiltered reserve" port, though from the description on the website sounds rather like a crusted. "From my own vineyard, Quinta do Vale D. Maria, located in the far hills o...

Re: Buyer's guilt...

Niepoort '94, on impulse, as it was my first 12-bottle case and had really been saving for an F85 or G85/80. But i bought at what seemed an acceptable price, stored at BBR since bottling, and relative scarcity combined with the fact that out of the various Niepoorts i have tried there has been only ...

Buyer's guilt...

Think it's still guilt, rather than remorse, but nevertheless distracting. As far as i can see, I can deal with this in one of two ways: -- withdraw case and split, drinking celebratory bottle at first suitable occasion -- leave in bond on the comforting (but probably faux) promise that i could alwa...

Re: Something for November

Smith V Gould matrix might be fun if there's not enough for a full Gould line-up. I think i have a '91 and a '77 Gould available - the former from BBR, the latter from a merchant whose name would raise an eyebrow on the forum (or so i was lead to believe at the Dow tasting!) and so might want to be ...

Re: Trip to the Douro; Advice

Jacob, I have just returned from a quick trip to that area - Pinhao and surrounding areas are beautiful, and I am sorry I did not have time to stay overnight there. However, I also had a very good evening out in Regua. As well as the recommendations from others, I found the following two webpages ha...
