Re: A good port shop?

Only one way to find out, have a punt on a cheapie. As Phil says, see if you can get one from out the back. Having seen your point about being underwhelmed I think I would avoid. But it is a good sign that they have a decent range. Also, it looks like they have older vintages, if the fill level is ...

It is not Magdalena, nor Mar. Since it seems no one has heard of this obscure producer, I'll reveal it's Quinta do Murcas and ask a gimme to pass the question asking duties: What was the most recent team to both host and win the same World Cup (Football/Soccer) tournament? Re: One quiz at a time

1984 Messias Getting warmer on the year, and correct first letter of the name (leading Quinta aside) I was going to guess 1988 Messias Quinta do Cachao LBV, but that would be futile. So instead, how about 1988 Martinez Quinta da Eira Velha? Does Martinez even make a Quinta-branded LBV? No clue, but...

I think I read that elderberries looked good and dark when the wine was young but went brown and separated out as they aged. No idea where I came across this, or if there is any truth in it.
I recall hearing the same, perhaps from Andy?

Not '86, also should have said not Morgado, but again, correct on the M, saving the leading Quinta part of the title

The sole time I've had the '55, it was very youthful and dark, a fantastic bottle of wine.

Re: One quiz at a time

I'll volunteer a question! What birth year port am I in the process of trying to buy 5 bottles of for $10 each from a reputable, knowledgable shop here in the states? Hint 1: This Quinta still appears to make both table wine and port as they operate as a semi-independent entity (they're owned but st...

Excellent show by the Yankees against Nigeria today. Much better than the anemic showing of defense that was exhibited against Turkey just a match before.

I'm confused with the whirlwind of questions, so I'll make one guess that will hopefully cover all questions: Gordon('s) Sumner, a British gentleman with a biography out.

Re: The Football World Cup

Mathematical forecasters estimate that England have a 1% chance of winning. William Hill say 25/1. Strangely, England are 5/1 to reach the quarter finals and also 5/1 to reach the semi-finals. That doesn't seem right to me. Apparently the fix is already in if they reach the quarter finals. Sent fro...

Re: 1997 Château Doisy Daëne

I highly recommend their 2005, which should still be reasonably easy to find at a good price. It's a bit sweeter, but has great balance and power. Everything you'd expect in a young Sauternes.
