Re: Thu 05 April 2018, THRA’s mystery 1922

Unfortunately I only saw this thread today — and I was actually free last night! Swines: why did no-one email me or text me?

On a separate note, I would prefer to have the Xmas bask on Thursday 13th as I will be on family vacation on Thursday 20th. I'll start a thread to that effect.

Alex. Rather belatedly, do you have 3 bottles you can spare still? Thank you. Ben Not this time round, but I plan to add some more to the order of Noval 2016 that we will inevitably purchase once the announcements have all been made. Alex - I'm happy to let Ben have three of my six, if that works. ...

Re: Crusted Port Wine Malvedos 1958 in Magnum format

It looks real to me and I am certain that a "crusted" port was made from the 1958 vintage - this is actually a proper vintage port.

I think this is debateable. I would have said " readers' " but each of the many true stories would have come from a single individual reader. If that was the case, would the use have been acceptable?

Re: Port and literature

Dorothy Sayers again (she clearly liked her Port). In the Lord Peter Wimsey story The Unpleasantness at the Bellona Club he is interrupted by Murbles while drinking Cockburn 1886 and they share several glasses together. Daniel did make a passing reference to this fact but didn’t include it in this t...

Re: Hotel or Restaurant Price List of the Week

But I think the award for London’s most impressive vintage port list has got to go to Bar Douro, which offers: Churchill Ruby Reserve @ £34 Churchill White Port (50cl) @ £40 - this is basically a 10YO white Churchill 10YO Tawny (50cl) @ £45 Churchill 2011 LBV @ £46 Churchill 20YO Tawny (50cl) @ £62 ...

Re: Hotel or Restaurant Price List of the Week

For the sake of good order, I’m posting here in case anyone not familiar with the Boot & Flogger is visiting London and wants a glass of Port. The B&F currently offer Graham 10 and 20 YO, Dow 1994, Taylor 1997 and Offley 2000 by the glass and have a fine wine list which includes Graham 1966 and Tayl...

Re: Second wind for 1963s? Tuesday 10 April 2018

I confirm I'll bring Dow and Mackenzie. I'll drop them off at the B&F tomorrow night and allow them to settle for a couple of weeks.

Nearer the time I can ask the B&F staff to pull the corks and to decant. If I can, I'll ask for these two bottles to get the Audouze treatment to make Wolfgang happy.

I'm struggling to get people to post about what will be pre-delivered. So, instead, please could everybody bring their bottle predecanted, and we'll do last moment pre-pouring. You posted the change of instructions just in time. I was planning to drop off tomorrow and Tuesday. I might still do so a...

The philosophy of drinking old port

One question I sometimes wrestle with is when to open a bottles of 19th century port. The chances are that a bottle like this will be old and oxidised, academically interesting for the snapshot of history it represents but not necessarily a great drink. Of course, there are exceptions, but these are...

NV Graham Six Grapes

The Port offering in the BA Galleries Lounge (South) at Heathrow Terminal 5. Deep red colour with a magenta-toned rim; opaque. Fresh bramble fruit on the nose, touched with some attractive flower perfume. Sweet bramble on impact, but balanced by a refined acidity. A hint of tannin shows on the mid-p...

The Big Fortified Tasting

Folks, As many of you are aware, I've taken over the organisation of the Big Fortified Tasting with the first show organised by me taking place on 9th May. I've had some fairly strong feedback from past exhibitors that in recent years there were not enough real customers attending, and too many who ...
