Re: Weds 14 March 2018, SQVP or a mature LBV

Ooh! Controversial! If you mean second wine, then say second wine and don't say SQVP. Noval have always made their ports only from grapes grown on their quinta. For many years Graham made Graham Malvedos from grapes grown outside the quinta boundaries. SQVP excludes Fonseca Guimaraens but Second Win...

Very interesting tasting note. I don't see this Port drunk very often so useful to see a current impression.

I shall leave my handful in storage for a bit longer.

Re: A reason to get up early

I always knew of a blue moon as being the second full moon in a calendar month - something which happens roughly once every two years. I understand that a super blue blood moon happens about once every 150 years. Sadly for those of us in the UK, the lunar eclipse happens while the moon is below the ...

Re: 5th November 2064 - a Quevedo Salmanazar..

Count me in, Tom. I have Rozes 1995 in Magnums. Happy to spend a O-PORT-UNIDADE 5 Liter bottle 2013, wherever that fits in. That's a good point. Tom did just say "...he plans to open..." and carefully avoided saying that all of the large formats he opens will come from his cellar. Some of us also h...

Re: 5th November 2064 - a Quevedo Salmanazar..

For the 2025 event I already have a T55 lined up, so to make the 100 I need a single 1995 magnum - but who bottled mags that year? Is there a Vesuvio? Cellartracker suggests there is, but there seem to be a few fantasy cellars included on that site, so not reliable. I don't recall ever having seen ...

Re: We need some tastings in the diary

I would be interested in a vertical of Offley, not a wine I see very often but one I enjoy drinking when I do see it. I have very little so would probably need to adopt a bottle unless, by some fluke, one of the bottles I did have filled a gap in the line-up. A '94 horizontal next year is another ex...

I shall bring a bottle of Fonseca 1963, formerly of the cellar of a minor British noble, with which to welcome Wilfred Stars to his new status as a subject.

Re: Thu 15 Feb 2018: Mr. Wolfgang Stars

There is the tiniest of tiny chances that I might be able to attend, though it's not likely right now. All being well, i am now hoping to be able to attend. Very good news. I shall keep my fingers crossed between now and then. Irayna has said that if we pre-order 2-3 days in advance, she would be a...

4 x 74 cl Dow 1963 Deliberate unusual size? (or just a typo?) A typo, although I don't know how I would ever find out a bottle was 74cl rather than 75cl (these have no labels). 12 x 20cl bottles of Graham 30YO tawny 2 x 75cl Quinta do Noval 1968 colheita AHB buying brown sticky stuff? Re: Warre's & Delaforce Vintage ports

The Delaforce 1988 LBV is probably not worth anything, but would probably drink reasonably well. If you know anyone who is 30 this year, it might be fun to share the bottle with them on their birthday. But check the colour of the contents of the bottle before you drink it. If the contents look a pal...

They look good to me.

Could we swap the S82 and Ch82 so the two Sandeman wines are next to each other?

It is with deep regret that I must decline to add my name to those inviting Mr Wolfgang Starz to celebrate his becoming a subject of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This is partly due to the fact that my principles to do not allow me, in all good conscience, to celebrate a free man giving up his fr...

Re: Thursday 18th January 2018?

The list of ports being brought by people has been updated slightly following Tony's post, and now reads as follows. If DRT attends, the obvious bottle to bring would be a bottle of Offley 1982... 1.Max (but possibly only for a quick drink); 2.Irayna (Smith Woodhouse 1982, bottled 1986); 3.AHB (Chur...

NV Maynard 10YO Tawny

Bottled 2017. Deep chestnut brown colour, 60% opaque. A wonderful nose of toffee, caramel and dates; very inviting. On the palate this has plenty of flavour, dominated by dates and with plenty of fresh acidity giving balance. Later on the palate there is a smokiness that add to the complexity of the...

Re: Thursday 18th January 2018?

One last request. Bar Douro only have around 60 glasses which they can put at our disposal. My maths says that 9 people and 9 bottles needs 81 glasses.

So you have a choice: be prepared to re-use glasses or bring 3 (or more) of your own with you on the day.
