Tue 12 June - anyone available?

I could be in London overnight on Tuesday 12th June. If I was, would anyone be interested in sharing a bottle of port? Draft of the placemats (and the parameters by which made ). http://www.jdawiseman.com/2018/20180512_BarDouro_g0.png http://www.jdawiseman.com/2018/20180512_BarDouro_v.png http://www...

Re: 2020 - A 1970 horizontal

I have a suspicion that this will prove to be a very popular tasting. I haven't opened a waiting list yet because with the benefit of planning so far ahead, we have the ability to seek out two bottles of each wine and so accommodate up to 28 people. But please, rather than tease me with vague statem...

2020 - A 1970 horizontal

Last night the suggestion was made that we might want to organise a large tasting of 1970 ports in 2020. Early preparation might be well worthwhile to allow us to accumulate as large a selection of 1970 shippers as possible. Between us, we can select what we will each acquire and what we will each b...

The Standard Food Order

At last night’s dinner we concluded that it would be a good idea to post here each person’s default food order. If you don’t change it, this is what you will get. If you want to change your default order, check out the menu available from the Boot & Flogger home page . My default order is: • No star...

Tasted at the London Wine Fair last week: Quinta da Côrte 2015.
They told me they will also declare 2016, but haven't done so yet (as of last week).
Is that still Delaforce or is it now an independent producer?

Re: 2016 Vintage Port Preview Tasting and other Ports and Douro wines

For what it's worth, I thought I would add my impressions of the 2016 ports I have had chance to taste so far, so you can compare and contrast my thoughts with Andy's. Bearing in mind that we like different things in our wines, you can draw your own conclusions: Cockburn 2016 Shown at the joint 2016...

Julian - I think Tony would very much appreciate you assembling the food order. I would like no starter, special order bone in rib eye (medium rare) with a side of fried shallots, bone marrow gravy and triple cooked fat chips.

For those of us who have to buy retail it seems like there are some relatively good bargains to be had on the '77s now we're out of the 40th anniversary year :)
That's good news. '77 is drinking very nicely now.

I recommend the walk across town and a visit to Quinta do Bomfim — but be sure to book in advance if you want to do so.

Re: Tuesday 15th May 2018, for the Royal Wedding

I note that Berry Brothers are running a pop up bar in Flat Iron Square on Tuesday 15th and Wednesday 16th May, 17.00-23.30. I plan to call in on my way to the B&F to see what they might have. Anyone care to join me? It would seem rude not to. What time? Not sure, sometime between 17.00 and 17.30?

2005 Robert Reynolds Fortified Wine

Julian Reynolds showed three of his fortified Alicante Bouschet wines from the Alentejo at the Big Fortified Tasting in 2018. Unfortunately I only had the chance to make a tasting note on one of the three (which were 2008, 2006 and 2005). Fortunately it was the best of the three that I was able to e...

Sorry chaps - I am having my second knee operation on 21 May so will still be immobile and, more significantly, in an alcohol-free state when this tasting happens. My knee operation has been delayed due to my current employment status. Am I still in or on a wait list? You look like you never came o...

I’ve reserved the Boot & Flogger ’s Red Room. AHB will want a seat. First post amended. Yes please. I would have brought the 1830 but I drank it last night whilst watching the Eurovision pre-event show. Instead I'll offer the 1963. Or (underlined for JDAW's attention) I could offer a 2000 if we wan...

If you've not stayed in Oporto before, there are plenty of good places to stay and eat which we can recommend.

Other places to stay in the Douro include Tedo (close to DOC) or if going upmarket, Aquapura

Anyone who has a problem finding the right wine can ask Tony or Tom very nicely if there's anything available for adoption...

Re: 1994; Where's the value?

Interesting to read the strategy for cellaring Port in this thread. I'm sitting on a case of '85 Graham's VP, a half case of '86 Graham's Malvedos VP, and a half case of 2003 Warre's LBV, while drinking what little '66, and '70 I have left. There's various Tawny and '92 Warre's LBV to fill in the g...

Chris Appleby will be joining us. He will be bringing a bottle of Sandeman 1970 and wishes to eat the goat's cheese salad and follow that with the rib eye (medium) with a side of beans; and 3 cheeses instead of dessert.

For me please:
No starter, special order bone-in rib-eye (medium rare) with skinny chips and béarnaise sauce, a portion of shallots on the side (although I'll have them with the green beans if I have to).
