Re: Port for sale by retailer
February Sale by Nickolls and Perks. Large number of wines reduced, several very tempting indeed, but I held firm (mostly).

Re: Latest buy
12 Offley Boa Vista 1994.
Everyone has their price, it is said, and 9% off appears to be mine. I had been succesfully resisting this for quite a while, and then Nickolls and Perks have a sale.

Re: Can you recommend a port glass?
IKEA make cheap white wine glasses that are an extremely good size and shape for port. Please post a link. Will look later to see if I still have a product number / packaging, or failing that browse the site to find the glass itself. Checked. Seems they've been discontinued and replaced with horrib...

Re: Taylors 1974 LBV
My only experience of older LBV is Taylor's 1994 last year. Drank well. Will hold a couple of years. Best wine match I've had with chocolate pudding. I'm inclined to agree that 1974 is a little old. Little value, open it and find out!

Is this the smallish size of barrel that is topped up with youngish port and emptied of the older mixture? What does the inside of the empty barrel smell like?

A money extraction mechanism! :D Bottle variation doesn't seem to be mentioned. Quicker decant, maybe, but doesn't necessarily mean better. Anyway, I do like to take the time to do it right - adds to the theatre for me. Could just get a J cylinder of medical O2 and bubble it through. Considerably ch...

Re: Port for sale by retailer
M+S. 1995 Taylor's QdTF at £22.50 (25% off from £30). Curiously, offer is to buy 2, which usually means 2 cases of either 6 or 12, but I only had to buy 2 bottles. I bought 6 (which gives the advantage of free named day delivery order total being over £100).

Tonight this has filled out nicely. The green bitterness has receded, replaced by tasty liquorice. Still on the light side but no faults and neither jammy nor stewed.

1999 Sainsbury
1999 Sainsbury TTD Some bricking. Light nose. Plums, alcohol and cough sweets. Enough tanins and acidity to balence sweetness but light on fruit. Cherry cough medicine. Finishes a bit light, though decent length, plums and cherries with green and woody notes, more cough medicine and slightly bitter...

It wasn't good. I'm pleased it is now good. I think they were all too young and overwhelmingly in a dumb phase. Optimism deflated turned to negativity. Perhaps I will dip in for a few more after all.

One would think that one's butler would be able to collect the decanter from the club the following morning so that one could enjoy the Port in the comfort of one's own home? Is that not an option that they have considered? Wouldn't one send one's Underbutler for such a task - surely one's Butler i...

Re: A weekend port?
Mmm. I'm reading this slightly pre lunch time with non drinking relatives staying. Now I'm sorely tempted to open a bottle of something, and with said relatives, perhaps it could even be considered a medicinal requirement. Perhaps with it open I could keep myself from drinking too much of it until a...

Two of my four companions knocked their sippers over wasting wine. An experience, but not one I have any great desi...

Tesco wine direct are sending me some more. Just checked and some left. I prefer it being sent direct - wine from the shelf has more scope to have been mishandled.

Smell
Perhaps a little off topic of port, but isn't meaningless drivel, and smell is part of the enjoyment of wine, so I've posted this here. For those that missed it. The second part of a recent BBC program on Quantum Mechanics showed how we smell is via at least two methods. The traditional lock and key...
