Damn. Last century. Not concentrating on post so much as wine and telly. Sorry. Still, got your attention.

Involved Navy and Marines, didn't involve British. Think this century and Pacific.

Slight delay. I was casting around for a suitable subject. I'm reading an account of a significant military battle. It is named after its location. What is the name?

Glad to hear the 77 tasted lovely. However, these possibly aren't worth very much, and if you enjoy them you may well decide to drink them yourself. Some photographs, if you are able to post them, might generate some interest and suggestion of value.

Thanks for an excellent evening, with a magnificent line up of large bottles. Apart from the Dow, which seemed to me a little disjointed (perhaps it needed a few more years?), all were very good indeed.

Re: Latest buy
I broke my duck on the 2011 vintage. Half a case of 2011 Quinta da Senhora do Convento at £24/bottle retail. I hope Alex is right about this wine, all I have to do now is live long enough to drink it. Can't argue with that price. I know what you mean though, I have a small amount of Grahams and Fon...

Very well done. Seems a very good price. I've kept half an eye out for this after AHB's review but haven't seen it anywhere.

I also think replacing a cork is a last resort. There is a thread on the forum about replacing the wax seal. If I had a leaker that I wanted to keep rather than drink I would try that first.

Re: Thursday 9 March 2017, 80s Majors Matrix
I see that Tony has lots of availability, some of which duplicate bottles that are being brought by people contributing two. Is there a solution where Tony supplies a different bottle and I bring my F85? Bump  Yes good plan! Derek - now bringing F85. Tony - have swapped you to W80. Dave - you...

Re: Olive Oil
We tasted the current batch of QdNoval extra virgin olive oil against EV oils that I happened to have in from Sainsbury, Filippo Berio and a Spanish oil that came free with a ham, Alhema D Queiles. The Noval is big, grassy, nice acidity, lovely long finish. The AdQ slighlty less grassy, but a little...

Re: Latest buy
Thanks for the heads up, I've bought 6. I've been buying 85s and 80s rather than 83s and I keep wondering if it is a mistake to have so few of the 83s. Will they come good over the next decade or so, and could I be missing out on some great wines? No problem. I hope they turn out OK, a lot of revie...

Re: Latest buy
I think the 60s have all but escaped me. Ah well. Perhaps I can still obtain a bottle or two of 66. I think some 70s are reasonably obtainable (I bought some Sandeman recently and will try one soon when settled). They do seem to be going up in price. I've some T83 and not been so impressed. I will g...

Re: Latest buy
Half a dozen 1983 Wine Society Exhibition port. I have next to no 83s and they are £44/bottle all in on the January clearance list. This seems more achievable than some of the more fanciful notions I have been having of late. Thanks for the heads up, I've bought 6. I've been buying 85s and 80s rath...

Re: Thursday 9 March 2017, 80s Majors Matrix
I have F85, T85, G85, W80 and D80 - I've been put down as having W85 and D85 which I haven't (well, I have the D85 but it is rubbish and wouldn't dream of bringing it) instead of G85 and T85.
