Are you suggesting Derek should be offering his services to mow "yards"? Personally I always thought you mowed the lawn and brushed the yard, but who am I to query this?!

I do need my house painting though.....

For anyone after a cheaper option, Tesco have some of their port on sale until 15th June. This includes: 1994 Tesco VP (Symington) at GBP12.79 (down from GBP15.99) Tesco Finest 10 year old Tawny (Symington) at GBP8.79 down from GBP10.99. Both have served me well when in need of a cheap quaffing port!

Re: Bottle Shock

For wines just shipped via boat, then trucked to my house or local wines store, I prefer at least six months. I've found the extended time on a boat really seems to hammer the wine and it takes some time to recover. The same goes for wines that are just bottled and suffer from Bottling Shock. As th...

Fabulous pictures. Who was holding the port at the time?
It was Egypt - no Port. See Oman for similar references!

Although I have not had this port yet I would venture to say 20 year minimum; 50-100 probably more like it. Taylor's age well. You got one heck of a deal at that price! I don't think it is going to make even 50 years - certainly not from now and very unlikely even 2045! I want to be in a fit state ...

The word cartel always makes me nervous! I am sure if there was something you were looking at, you could easily let those people likely to have a similar interest know of yours.

There is a Port for Sale thread I think. I suspect this is not the first time this issue has been discussed.

I personally look at the bottle shape first. I am very traditional - I like my wine bottles to look like wine bottles, not the output from some 1st year art student! Once that has been established, I am in the "KISS" category - Keep It Simple Stupid! Therefore I think I agree with you - I ...

I was watching that just to see what happened! There is a "Croft 1920" on offer at present as well! Yes, but thats got problems. It says re-bottling on the bottle. But It doesn't seem to give any clues of how, when, why, etc. That would be an adventurous punt. You could try the SushiNorth...

I thought that it was England's fourth highest 4th innings score to win a test, anywhere in the world? It was certainly England's highest winning 4th innings score at Old Trafford. I believe it was the fifth highest 1st innings deficit succesfully overcome and the fifth highest run chase ever succe...

Re: I’m available … from about 2pm on Friday 11th July 2008.

Ben: it’s your first child (please confirm). So at least 24 hours will elapse before the start of the rumblings and anything happening. Hence we should put you down tentatively, and if there are no reports of an imminent delivery as we decant, upgrade you to being a light-drinking participant. Yes ...

Out of interest, is the very fine sediment indicative of 1994 VP's generally, or just this one? I have seen one or two comments suggesting that certain vintages share traits such as sediment style.

It is too fine for my metal gauze filter! I guess I need unbleached coffee filters!

It seems like someone at the Taylor's lodge has made quite an expensive mistake. As far as I know this port has always been very expensive, ever since release. Drinking window - perhaps as little as another 20 years, perhaps needing another 50... Not one for the short term!
One to forget about for a while then!
