Re: Annual ACPT March 8th 2014 tasting in NY

i think some of you have some of the bottles i have, if you wish to contribute your bottle in place i'm sure i can do some math to work out the difference between what you would owe vs your contribution. I do have the 1985 but your price is similar. Logistics likely easier if less shipping involved...

Re: Mon 27 Jan 2014, Taylor 1985, at The Bung Hole

Sadly after having had lunch yesterday with EDN and also talking about this experiment I must assume that port from the lost decade can show this pattern of greater variabilty. This has to do with various reasons all of which can make an impact (corks, industrialisation, cellar work etc.) Perhaps w...

Re: Niepoort: Small changes in design and pricing

Just look at the back label of your Niepoort vintage ports (or the little card attached) and see that over the decades they made the same spelling error. Bonus points for the first one to find out. You must have different bottles from me, because mine pretty much have an error on every singl...

Love how you're approaching this.
If a move to London ever pops up on the radar I will be much happier to consider it than before, knowing there is a bunch of guys out there that approach Port the way you do!

Forwarded on to my sister who lives in Bochum... hope she can make it. Wish I were able to attend! What's her name? Tell her to let me know that she is your sister to get around the entrance fee. Appreciate it Axel. Sadly my sister and her husband already had theatre tickets and wont be able to mak...

Re: Wax on wax off

Why do people use wax altogether? Is it actually able to keep leaky corks from leaking? Or instead to protect the cork from bugs and other external threats?

I suspect that the Agência de Gestão da Tesouraria e da Dívida Pública would prefer that you don’t say that within the hearing of the investors.

1977 Dow VP
Picked it to be our Thanksgiving VP but by dessert time i couldnt get myself to drink it. It was tasting fine over the first hour or two in decanter. More than half the bottle went down the drain the following day. so sad.

Re: IVDP glasses and square stems

Interesting topic. I find that I like bigger glasses for young ruby (be it VP or LBV) and that a smaller glass like the IVDP works well for aged tawny or aged VP. Rather enjoyed drinking plenty of F 07 LBV in early 2013 using riedel red wine glasses. I also appreciate the thin-cut glass at the mouth...

Re: Annual ACPT March 8th 2014 tasting in NY

If there is still room I'd love to join. I only have the 1985 and 2000 Fonseca, not sure if needed/desired. Would be happy to split the cost too. Had it in the back of my mind that you'd be organizing a tasting again this year and meant to come check it out but only got around to it now. Hope not to...

Re: Best Port restaurant/bar/lounge in NYC

Higher end restaurants also typically offer some VP by the glass. For my birthday the wife gifted herself by taking me to Bouley, where I had a glass of Grahams 85 (v nice, btw). The thing that stood out to me there was their selection of Madeira's, which the Sommelier was also fairly excited about ...

Best Port restaurant/bar/lounge in NYC

For those in the NYC area, have you been impressed by the Port offerings of a particular restaurant/bar/lounge in NYC? I typically find a base offering at most places (a couple of tawnies, base level rubies - or one/two VPs at higher end restaurants) but cant recall ever being truly impressed by the...

Re: ACPT Port tasting, NYC, March 9, 2013

This tasting (and meeting up w you) looks super interesting! From the sound of it am afraid it may be a little over my budget, though. Could you bracket it for me in that regard? Otherwise, which of the desired bottles are you still missing, so i can estimate how much that might run me? All this ass...
