Re: Exploding corks

By ‘exploding’ are you referring to the phenomenon where the cork refuses to move when attached with a spiral style ‘pull’ corkscrew and instead disintegrates into lots of dry tiny pieces? If so, I’ve previously assumed this was just an occasional annoyance and not some wider issue. I will pay more ...

Re: Smoking Bishop & other Mulled Ports

My mum has just given me this recipe for Portuguese mulled port. I’m just not sure if I have a suitable bottle to make it with!

I struggled. Mainly because so many bottles I want to share with people who will appreciate them. Not finish on my own. I’ve selected an old LBV of which I have multiple bottles.

Re: Smoking Bishop & other Mulled Ports

The big difference seems to be that mulled wine is generally made to be consumed immediately whereas ‘smoking bishop’ seems to be made and bottled for future consumption. Increasingly I enjoy a glass of mulled wine. It may simply be that the Jamie Oliver recipe I use really appeals to me. It involv...

Watch your spam folder for an email then log in and use the code you are sent. I got the email about 2-3 hours later I think. I suspect it is a manual process so don’t be surprised if it comes tomorrow! If you need to email them they are quite responsive. I emailed to check I had everything right an...

I enjoyed being able to gift a pack too - and my recipient was very pleased.

Re: Churchill's Port Club

I took the plunge! The sign up process is a bit vague. Quick to take my money. No contact (so far) about the bonus bottles. Personally I discovered I really like the Churchill style at their lockdown tasting but found their bottles hard to find in the U.K. Buying from Portugal was certainly more exp...

Re: Tue 24 November 2020 - A Tasting with Sophia Bergqvist

@ Alex - Would be really nice to get Johnny Graham out to play. The 2000 Churchill was absolutely gobsmacking when I had it early this year. I thought the QdlR was quite similar in style to Churchill’s. Both are houses I have tried properly for the first time and both I have enjoyed a lot. I think ...

I’ve talked my Mum into joining Nuala and I so I won’t be able to join you afterwards. We’ve got the TV lined up to watch the tasting from our dining table with a full spread of food as suggested by Tony. See you all at 7pm.

Re: Port in movies, dramas and tv series

Watched over the weekend parts of the old TV series "All Creatures Great and Small". In S1 Ep3 sends Mrs Pumphrey a Fortnum&Masons hamper to James Herriot containing 3 bts of Grahams 1920 and 3bts of 80 year old brandy for improving her pudel Tricki Woo's health. In Germany the series...

Re: Olive Oil

I've just been advised that the 2020 harvest of Noval olive oil is going to be shipped to the UK in the next month or two. If anyone would like any, please let me know. It's the same price as last year (£10 for a 50cl bottle). Depending on where you are and how quickly you need your oil I may be ab...
