Re: Drawing old corks in one piece..

First of all- great that you have found a way to pull the cork in one piece. That is very important if you want to read the text on the cork of an unknown bottle. Regarding the reason it works, that is less important. However, a change in diameter in the order of 0.01 mm is much less than 0.1% of th...

Re: port quotes

Out of curiosity I looked up the menu for the state dinner staged for David Cameron's visit to Washington last year. Link . "The President likes salted caramel" What a wasted opportunity for some port drinking... Perhaps this quote would be appropriate for that wasted opportunity: "T...

Re: port quotes

What port was served at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday 7th March 2006 at the ‟State Banquet in honour of The President of the Federative Republic of Brazil and Senhora Lula da Silva”? I have absolutely no idea but a "da Silva" vintage port would have been suitable I would think. Even more ...

B.O.B. in the UK?

I have noticed that there are several Buyers Own Brand of Vintage Port in the UK. I have found a few but would be very interested in what other brands are around. I have had the opportunity to buy/taste the following - Berry's own selection - Tesco - Harrods - Marks & Spencer - Gilbey (presumabl...

Re: What port to drink in Cornwall

Vau sounds like a wise choice. If you do take an imperial and decant in several smaller bottles, do try to taste them side by side. It would be interesting to know if there is a bottle variation. We have done that with a magnum serving it in two glasses among other wines. Many people score the secon...

Re: How to re-wax bottles

:D :P :D 25 kg being the minimum order makes it not be too difficult to chose order quantity. Choosing between minimum order and any alternative.... I think the tiny amount of 25 kg would suffice. Are you satisfied with it? Does it stop initial leakage? Or does it seep through anyway? I am not reall...

Re: What port to drink in Cornwall

Pleasant alternatives :D Had I been in Cornwall at the time and being able to enjoy it with you, I would have chosen Malvedos 1976 as I have never tasted that one. (You don't have a spare one I might have the honor of buying from you, do you?) However, as I am not there, the case it becomes more dif...

Re: How to re-wax bottles

This is great information about re-sealing & waxing. I will order some wax from British wax. May I ask how much wax is needed, if someone with experience could offer suggestions for how much to order?

how to re-seal old bottles?

Does anyone here have any experience on re-sealing old bottles of port? I would be very happy if someone would have any advice on how to put an additional protection on top of old and fragile corks. Especially if there are initial signs of seapage and I don't want to be forced to drink it right away...

Re: harveys

We know that Harvey's (of Bristol) was a bottler that did bottle many different houses. However, in addition, they also bottled some vintages under their own name. For example the 1962 which is their own blend of Cockburn and Martinez. 1983 and 1985 is branded Harvey's and bottled by Martinez Gassio...

Thank you DRT but I was hoping that someone might have a list showing number of declaring houses by each year. We do have such a list originating from the port wine institute but it is not complete.

Re: shipped by A. Reis & Co Ltd

We thought is was Silva-Reis at first but his name is Manuel Silva Reis and on this bottle it says A. Reis & Co so that indicates that it is probably not connected directly to Silva Reis or Real Cia Velha. Reis is not an uncommon name in Portugal so I believe it is another Reis family. I'll orga...

Hi,
We recently had a bottle of "A. Reis" 1967 vintage port. Does anyone know anything of this house? I cannot find anything mentioned about this house anywhere.
