Re: "Port-like" but not technically port?
All the 'ports' I have tried from outside Portugal have been ghastly aberrations. Discuss. I've tried a few of the Australian ones, not tried the SA ones at all yet, though I do have one I received as a present. So far I have not found the rubies to be anywhere near the standard of true ports, but ...

Ahhh, I have deciphered your quote on second reading; Initially I thought this was a kinky reference to a well-known heiress. Looks great - not only can you pin things to it that you need to remember, the board itself will be a reminder of many tastes, occasions and the people you shared them with each time you look at it.

Sainsbury have their occasional 25% off deal running again at the moment for any 6 bottles of wine/port/etc.
No additional specific bottle offers of note to give combined reduction, but I did grab a couple more g98crusted along with some wine.

Did anyone taste this at the day with David Guimaraens? Was that yesterday? Who went? Review please. I have put myself on a self-imposed alcohol ban for the next 5 weeks and will therefore be unable to attend this event. I will happily pay someone the cost of a Croft Roeda if anyone has one to hand. If not I will arrange to have one at the tasting in my absence. If no attendees have one handy, I h...

Are we definitely going blind on this? I'm interested to see how they taste, and differ, and will be more interested in "so the '58 Dow is like this, the '58 Warre is like that..." than in guessing which is which. If we do do it blind, could people still please bring the bottles, as some w...

Hi Oliver, and welcome to :tpf: Where are you from? I guess our opinions of the waiter might vary depending on where the restaurant is located. Regarding your questions: 1. Beaumont Cape Vintage 2008 would appear ( here ) to be a South African fortified wine made in the style of port (but cannot off...

OK for me thx. Are you missing any bottles still? I'm currently planning to buy '75, '82 and '87 retail, unless someone has them already and hasn't mentioned it yet. Other known vintages within '22 to '90 which we do not have are '31, '45, '50, '53 and '78, but these were neither available from amo...

This tasting is now confirmed for 26th Nov. The line-up is looking good, I am currently expecting this to be: 1922, 1927, 1934, 1948, 1955, 1958, 1960, 1963, 1967, 1970, 1973 (crusted), 1975, 1982, 1985, 1987, 1989 (crusted) From the contributors' comments, we seem to have excellent provenance on mo...

Re: Tue 03 June 2014, Oscar Quevedo in London
Logistics: I'm unlikely to be in London again before this date; I could potentially obtain another '58 from elsewhere, but could not then easily arrange for it to be at TBH in advance - I could decant on the day and bring, but that doesn't help with keeping things blind. In order to keep to the plan...

When I stay overnight in London for the tastings, I mostly use Travelodge; as I'm spending very little time in the room, I'll just go for the cheapest available within ~20min tube ride. Some can be quite noisy (where traffic/trains are immediately outside, such as Aldgate East; My preferred are Beth...

I was less keen on the '75 which seemed quite harsh to me, though I suspect might well have improved with more time post-decant. The '81 and '82 were both enjoyable - the '82 had a little less fruit, while the '81 was slightly fuller with more richness and complexity, almost like an '83 VP and was m...
