Edit: of course adding the Nacional puts about an extra £70pp onto the cost assuming purchased at retail! I don't have NN97, but I believe one of the regulars here does...... Tom - i am more than happy to put your name on one of my bottles for the future, but below was Doty's TN from the BBR event ...

Re: Niepoort Tasting by the WineBear (05/22 @ Quo Vadis)

Hi guys - I presume Dirk is committed to my tasting as it is an official trade dinner organised via his UK importer Raymond Reynolds. I'll check on Monday but sorry if this 86s your 66 ... Unless you guys fancy doing the 66 alongside my tasting and attending the dinner? R No worries - I think it ha...

Re: The Doty Cup 2015 - The Square - Friday April 3rd, 7pm

These tastings have been one of the true highlights in terms of events i have been to over the last two years, so would love to register interest. However, i have twice benefitted from you generosity so feel free to overlook me if needed to ensure that WS1, AHB, DRT, THRA, BHMR etc. get their chance...

TBH is still booked under the name of "The Port Forum" - I assume for this event.

Re: 1987 Niepoort

I am not a fan of the VP's Dirk's father Rolf made. I thought Dirk had always claimed the 1987 as his own (& first....), and one he was rather proud of. Mayson notes that there are volatility issues with the 87, but my experience with it has been much better than 91/94/97 (haven't had the 85 en...

Re: 60 vs 63

There is a slight problem in that, having heard nothing further about it for a while, a few of us took up an invitation to another event. Can we postpone this theme given the confusion that has arisen around dates, partly as a result of my own meddling with the 91/92 vs 60vs63 tastings? Surely this...

Re: 2014: the TPF blend

By PM someone has suggested that I explain my dislike for this idea. Here goes... I think the idea of a group of amateurs thinking that they can improve on what producers with hundreds of years of experience behind them can produce is somewhat arrogant and insulting to those who have shown us great...

Re: Tue 04 March 2014, 1994 Horizontal, Michael Schuster

1994 is a quite outstanding Port year. It is one of the three great declared vintages of the past three decades (alongside 2000 and 2011), and it will most likely outrank 1963 and 1966. It will certainly better 1970... Fighting talk - not sure whether a genuine belief or stated with a view to promo...

Re: 1994 Niepoort

Incidentally, Richard M suggested anyone with cases of Ni94 may want to check them, so perhaps this is not a one-off. If they are in bond, i wouldn't even bother checking them - just sell... As i think CMAG previously observed, it is telling that the 94, 85 and 97 are not mentioned in the list of V...

Attentive students of :tpf: will already know that the 2014 harvest will be of excellent vintage quality . Re: 2014: the TPF blend

It is a seriously bad idea. Not even Baldrick could have come up with a less cunning plan than this one. Do you not admire the audacity of John Avery in concocting a rough and ready "house" blend of three of the top producers' efforts from, what was at the time, one of the finest vintages...

Apologies - i was not clear. My query was whether this was the type of establishment to allow placemats and a row of 12 glasses, or whether we would be doing the wines in pair by pair.

I guess all english based persons might be able to confuse this, event if they have a reputation. Again: Niepoort did not produce a Vintage nor a Colheita in 33. The bottle confirms, it is a Garrafeira. Did you miss the posts above yours, where this had already been acknowledged by english based pe...

Not sure what really the Avery 1963 vintage port consist of. John Avery probaly took the secret into his grave. From a second hand source, which contains enough detail to make it credible (and is consistent with what Broadbent has to say on the wine): Update from Avery's Wine. In 1963 Avery's made ...
