Re: NV Dow 30YO

45% opacity, dark copper. Tart orange fruit on the nose. Lively acidity, oranges, and dry. Punchy - a little bit overpowered even.

Re: NV Calem 30YO

40% opacity, toffee amber. Lovely warm rounded nose with lots of honeycomb, cedar, almonds. Very smooth in the mouth, honeycomb and almonds again. Very enjoyable. Noticeably different to the other two 30YO on parade at this event, the Dow 30YO and the San Leonardo 30YO.

Re: 1993 Barros LBV

45% opacity, dull brick red. Nose has soft, sweet cherries, some dustiness. MId-weight, faint tannins, gentle heat, a little cherry fruit still there. Not stellar port, but pretty good for a year that was a complete howler.

I think also 3/10, but maybe 4/10. Six answers were not quite stabs in the dark, but some could be out by a century or more :D

Re: Port for sale at auction

@ flash - auction market is undergoing a substantial correction. Fill your boots if you haven't already. Yet again I find myself broke during a correction, goddamnit. Interesting that you’ve noted this. Was chatting with a friend earlier in the week, musing about liquidity issues potentially drivin...

This lot sold for £34k ... :-)
I was expecting (much) higher...

Re: Croft vertical, Tue 07 Nov 2023

Confirming attendance. I think there have been a lot more bottle offers than those you’ve listed - see top post.

Can I bring the Cr00? Reluctant to take another Cr66 from the same tranche the bottle for the recent ‘66 vertical came from, as that one seemed overly mature.

Bit funky this one. Had I opened it on its own with some cheese, I would have seen it off. Something in the taste profile was just not quite right.

35% opacity, mature red, amber rim. Soft and chewy, oranges and peppermint. Much more mature, soft and sweet than the other ports on show - more like a Cr63 than what I would expect for a Cr66.

30% opacity, mature red, orange rim. Rich red fruit on the nose. Soft and smooth, gentle bitterness, toffee, drying cranberries, though a slightly artificial flavour in the finish. Pleasant enough but not a stunner.

40% oapcity, mature warm red. Faint strawberry nose. Soft entry, red fruit then spreads across the palate, lovely syrupy chewiness mid to late palate. Like the Noval, another fine port.
