Re: 77@40 from Magnum and Tappit Hen - Wed 1st Feb 2017

I so want to come to this. But my left sinus is on fire. I can’t. If there’s anybody who could use a seat, gratis , it’s otherwise going unused. Hope you feel better soon, but if you are totally sure about giving up your seat for free, then I have a very grateful guest I could bring along (another ...

Re: 77@40 from Magnum and Tappit Hen - Wed 1st Feb 2017

There is a strong chance I may now be able to make this tasting (replacing one Simon with another), but don't have an appropriate bottle contribution. If I double-check on Monday, would that be ok? Excellent - I have pencilled you in but please confirm ASAP I can confirm attendance. Looking forward...

Laithwaites currently selling Andresen 40 yo tawny (2016 bottling) at £60 for a 750ml bottle. Using a LINK50 code for a £50 discount if you spend £120 you can get them for £70 a pair (plus delivery ~£10).

2 magnums of 2005 Fonseca Guimaraens VP. I've been looking for a long time to find a (any) 2005 VP, as it's my oldest son's birthyear. So one of these will go to him, the other will maybe be opened at an apropiate time by me  When I got them home today, they stated on the labels that these...

Forgot to mention, my companions in drinking the port had previously tasted a good bottle of the T85 (I had not) and were both unimpressed with this one.

1986 Taylor Terra Feita

TTF86 acquired last year DP through Nickolls & Perks. Decanted 8 hours beforehand, medium-dark red in line with its age. A potent and fruity port. Plenty of black fruit, plus some red fruit. Still some good tannins, but remains a little alcoholic. Superior than a 'stewed' T85 served for comparis...

1985 Taylor

T85 sourced from Tesco in the half-price sale last year. Decanted 8 hours beforehand, colour reasonable, if a little light for its age. Overall my impression was "stewed". Tasted rather flat, with some soft sweet summer fruits; rather lacking in the expected punch or any wow factor. TTF86 ...

Unfortunately, unless you can prove me wrong, you are barred on grounds of age discrimination, not fitting a birthyear of 1985/1986 :)

Decanting recommendation

Hi all,
I will be opening 2 bottles of T85 and 1 of TTF86 this weekend to share with some suitably aged friends. Any recommendations on decanting time for these?
Thanks!

Re: A long weekend in Porto and the Douro

Did you get the chance to visit the Graham museum at the lodge when you lunched at Vinum? I've not been round the museum yet and would be interested to hear your impressions. This was actually the second time I've been in the new museum since it opened, so I didn't pay as much attention. I remember...

Re: A long weekend in Porto and the Douro

Both Sat and Sun evenings we went to the reopened Vinologia (now Portologia?), which had a similar selection to previously, although I actually preferred the older surroundings. The new style is rather bright and modern for my taste. Vinologia vs Portologia - they are different premises; Last year ...

A long weekend in Porto and the Douro

Taking advantage of the first May bank holiday weekend (it isn't a bank holiday Monday in Portugal, so everything was open), four of us took in the delights of Porto and the Douro Valley. A few notes on the trip follow, but suffice it to say that I noted at least 42 ports tasted in the course of the...
