Boa tarde 10anos, as we are still talking about a 2000 LBV the sediment should not be too heavy, so 12-24 hours upright standing should be sufficient. One of my next articles is about LBVs as I find it very confusing, wether a LBV is traditionally bottled or not if it doesnt say on the label. A real...

Hey Alan, I am kind of new to the trade, but a port enthusiast for quiete some time. I stayed close to Peterborough for some month and was introduced to the british club scene by an officer of the RAF. That was the time when I started drinking Port. Although Im buying and selling Port for a while (h...

Alex, normally Colheitas should be drunk when bottled. I guess this is the reason why a faulty cork does not have that much of effect, because the time it spends with the cork is normally shorter. On the other hand I do agree with g-man, that the flavours of an (old) Colheita will more lay over a ba...

Essenca do vinho

Dudes,

will anyone of tpf.com attend the essencia do vinho in Porto next week? It is one of the biggest wine fairs in Portugal and there will be a lot of producers there.

If I am the only one I will tell you how it went.

Yes I did it ... but a little story ahead: Im in the middle of a hughe VP 05 - tasting and I think I pretty much got em all. Maybe the Borges is missing, but I will call them again tomorrow. Luis Carneiro of Taylors Fladgate was so kind sending me Taylors Terra Feita and Vargellas, two brothers who ...

LBV Filtered or Unfiltered - An overview

I know that we had this topic before, but I would like to have a list with the producers and the fact wether they are producing filtered, unfiltered LBVs or both (maybe with an extra remarks section such as: "Warre holds back its LBVs until ready to drink" or "Niepoort has not marked ...

2003 Offley LBV

That was a real surprise. Bought it at a duty free store. The bottle is pitchdark and sealed with a cork (!), this wine had a lot in common with a weak VP: the acohol, the acidity a little less fruitiness and not so many tannins. Overall: a very nice LBV which should be put away for 10 years. Anyone...

The difference between Malvedos and Quinta dos Malvedos Port

Since there will be Quinta dos Malvedos Ports out soon, the question about the difference between a Malvedos and a Quinta dos Malvedos Port arouse. The Symingtons bought Grahams in 1970, but sold Malvedos right away to re-buy it in the 80s. So how can there be a Grahams Malvedos 1979? Here is the an...

Are we still talking about a Noval 63 or has somebody smuggled in some Nacional in your TNs. Was it that much better than the one we had last March in London?

Christian Seely had us served the 67 Noval VP when having lunch on his quinta. In my oppinion a year that is (totally) overlooked concerning the Novals.

Thanks for the input on the Nacional.

2003 Grahams VP

2003 is my fruit bomb year. I never had so many so fruit dominated young VPs as in 2003 and the Grahams VP is no example to this. This wine is very similar to the Noval of the same year. The reflexes in the black colour are starting to fade. The palate exactly holds what the nose promises: strong fr...

2000 Grahams VP

The 2000s are anyways in a phase where they do not want to be touched, so the corky note on this wasn’t that bad after all. Try again in 10 years earliest.

1997 Grahams VP

The 1997 was a big surprise for me. Colourwise very deep, black without any signs of age. The nose was dominated by Hefe, which totally occupied the palate, too. Short and flat aftertaste. This wine tasted like a very fresh cask sample of a wine either in or shortly after the maturation. I had this ...

1994 Grahams VP

My price-value-winner of the evening. I had this VP last three months ago in Vila Nova de Gaia together with the Dows and the Vesuvio of the same year. You can only see that this is not a fresh Vintage Port because the reflections in the colour are missing. The structure is amazing, very intensive n...

1991 Grahams VP

I never had the 91 yet. So here it comes: the colour was lighter than the 83/85 couple. The nose was very developed: Toffee and raspberry. The palate was a bit disappointing after smelling it: not enough concentration. The alcohol was completely integrated. Hints of Malt and red berry-mix. Fairly sh...

1985 Grahams VP

The Grahams 85 VP is my winner in this generally declared year. I have had this wine very often, but mostly could not resist finishing it prior to its optimum decanting time of at least 4 hours. This wine looks fairly young for its 23 years of age. Slight bottle stink, this wine appears to be not in...

1983 Grahams VP

Optically identical to the elder brother from 85, you miss the sweetness often typical for Grahams VPs. A very strong spicy note in the nose: strong but very pleasant with a lot of pressure. Same in the mouth: a very good intensity. Very interesting. Those of you never tried this one: do so as it is...

1977 Grahams VP

I had this wine with Dominic Symington last year out of a Magnum after a Graham’s tawny and VP Display. Very bright red colour. Full structure. The nose is very distinct: floral with some red-berry fruit. Very integrated on the palate with fruit, a strong herbal note and the floral touch from the no...

1975 Grahams VP

As you guys are pretty aware there are two opposing parties concerning the declaration of 1975. The one believes in solely political reasons (Revolution in Portugal), the other is convinced by the quality of the Ports often describing them as very sharp or fine VPs. The 75 Grahams can not hide its a...

1970 Grahams VP

The 1970 VP of Grahams was a long time my favourite. Not only because it is my year of birth and I am emotionally bounded but I strongly believe in this Port for quality-reasons. I first drank it after a Bordeaux horizontal tasting of the 70s. One reason why I converted to Port was the Grahams VP at...

1963 Grahams VP

The Grahams 63 VP showed off with an enormous concentration. Pretty tawny-ish colour (as most of the 63s have already) with hints of cherry and raspberry in the nose. Very fresh. This wine is everything else than sweet on the palate, but has all it needs to have: intense fruits and an astonishing co...
