Re: Latest buy

Catawiki? I see you're a man of culture. Ha! More like a man who's bored silly when not working. In all seriousness, when I was living in northern Europe I did find that there were a great many wine merchants in the Netherlands using catawiki to sell VPs from second tier producers at favourable pri...

Re: Latest buy

yeah it was and a bit of a challenge to find ports from the year, so when i do find them i have to try and get them. If you are still stuck towards 2024 I bought a case of Delaforce QdCorte and I still have 9 or 10 bottles. Wouldn’t be wowing about them tbh. thanks, i know that it is bad year, just...

Ha, we're from the same year. Terrible year for VP, unfortunately :(

Re: Latest buy

Finally after over 30 years of attending auctions a 1961 bottle came up and I got it!!!! Noval Crusted 1961 (Alex tells me it is a sort of vintage as it was bottled in 1964) for €240 plus commission so the most expensive Port I have ever bought...because I'm worth it. Congrats! It's always nice to ...

Re: Insane auction prices

I sometimes find good deals on Catawiki, but since most sellers there are located in continental Europe I'm not sure about posting to the UK.

Re: Cellar Defenders without Selos or Labels

Long time lurker, first time poster! This post made me come out of the woodwork. As part of my long-running commitment to enriching the family which owns the property adjacent to Quinta Dona Matilde, I recently had a dozen bottles filled with what is claimed to be a 1937 colheita. This tasting note...

Re: Latest buy

Purchased today a couple of 2003 Ramos Pinto and a case of Calém 2018.
I very much enjoyed the 03 Ramos Pinto and found two bottles at a good price, didn't hesitate. Haven't sampled the Calém 18 but a trusted friend says it's worth it. Fingers crossed.

I have two of those in the cellar, haven't actually tried it. First one to open a bottle has to post their impressions.

I can't wait for the technology that would allow me to lick my phone and have an app prepopulate all the appropriate tastes! You can do that now. Just prepopulate your phone screen with the appropriate tastes, so that then it can prepopulate you . but sharing is caring!! Hmm....pre-flavoured face m...

I'd be in for that.

But I'm in Portugal and you're in the UK, I think we'd lose more on the subsequent postage than we'd save on the bundle :P

Re: 2019 Declaration - Sogevinous

You're correct on all counts. - Sra da Ribeira was always a cut above Bomfim; - It has been getting more expensive over time. I've been working there as an intern oenologist for the past three harvests, and they've been receiving the top grapes from a lot of the surrounding Symington-owned estates. ...

Re: 2019 Declaration - Sogevinous

In my personal experience, 2020 was a better year for Port than 2019 (great wines made at Senhora da Ribeira, btw, will be interesting to see how they will release them). Curious as to how they will handle that.

My latest purchases were a couple of bottles of Noval 2018, a case of Ferreira 2000 (at an incredible price), and a case of Barros 2018. The Barros 18 is a fantastic wine, delicious even this young. Good to know! An acquaintance of mine works at Sogevinus and got me a case of 6 for €120. It was alw...

The Warre's 2000 is a favourite of mine, fantastic choice.
I haven't tried the Dow's 97, but it's a great house and a great year, can't really go wrong.
